Do you wish you'd picked the bypass instead of the sleeve?

Hi all, I have been doing a ton of research, talking with dr and checking out the really helpful threads but I still can't  figure out sleeve or bypass. I have 150 Lbs to lose but dumping possibility freaks me out. Anyone who got the sleeve wish you'd had the bypass to help with more weight loss?

thanks.

OMG no.  As time goes on, research is showing about equal weight loss between RNY and VSG.  (Higher starting BMIs seem to do well with the DS, though.)  However, the more research I did about living with an RNY, the less I wanted it.  Dumping, a "remnant" stomach (that kinda creeps me out), no NSAIDS ever, reactive hypoglycemia, I even came across a cohort of RNYers who developed seizure disorder.  No evidence it's caused by the surgery, maybe they would have developed it anyway, but I was like, OK, peace out, VSG for me!

I'm 4 years out, got down about 130 lbs from highest-ever weight to happy place.  Right now I'm about 6 lbs above where I like to be, but I'll get back there.  Keep researching!

I am so happy with my sleeve.  I lost 225 pounds in about 18months, and I went from a BMI of 60 to a BMI of 24! I love my sleeve.

I was also afraid of dumping and concerned about vitamin deficiencies due to mal-absorption, which are more common with the RNY.  I also did not like the idea of rerouting my intestines and replacing my stomch with a pouch.  So the sleeve was the better choice for me.

best of luck,

Carol

Hell no.

You do not want the risks, complications, or radical body modifications from an RNY a if the sleeve is an option at all.

I echo comments above. I want to add one thing. I am SMO with Super High BMI. I have seen the sleeve work wonders for SMO people as well. The thought of re routing my plumbing scares me, that is why I chose the sleeve. I originally favored Lab Band before I discovered the sleeve, but once I found out about all the adjustments and slippage and failure rates, it was a no brainer for me to choose the sleeve once I discovered it.

Its the same as my story!

I walked in to surgeon with wanting to get lapband. My surgeon no longer even does the bypass. He said even though its only a very small percentage of cases who have complications such as leaking and the 'dumping', he just didnt offer it and i respected that. Bypass was never an option for me...never interested me though a friend of mine had it done.

lapband...lol. to be honest the thought of having some button/port just under my skin...didn't appeal. although, thats what i went in with:Lapband. the more he talked, the more comfortable i was with the VSG. so after my first appoint, i was 90% sure that is what i wanted. he told me i didnt have to decide right away.

The closer i get to my surgery date, the more i know ive made the right choice. Just like the right choice will come to you. BUT you have to understand..sometimes..based on medical history...the choice is not always yours...or made more apparent. a good doctor will suggest what you should get based on current and past med history

I had RNY and have never regretted it.  All surgeries have the potential for complications, and while I have never dumped, the potential of it happening keeps my eating on track so I am not tempted.

If I had chosen the RNY, it would have been a collossal mistake. I was diagnosed with an arthritic condition and have to be on NSAIDS for life. It wouldn't be possible with the RNY. Sleeve was by far the best choice for my future.
