A bad day :(

Guys, I've done so well. I've never cheated once except for a couple bites of pasta..in 4 months I haven't had potatoes, breads, sweets, sugary drinks..not one taste of any of it.

I was super stressed out today & I was in walmart & I bought a cookie. I came home and ate all of it..190 calories, 15g of sugar, 27 carbs.

Sweet foods were my downfall before surgery and I'd managed to avoid them this far. Now my worst fear is I've put myself on a downhill slope to failure...which is exactly what I feel like right now, a big failure. I've lost 74 pounds so far but I still have that much to lose again and I feel like I'll never get there at this rate. No matter how hard I try lately my weight loss has been minimal. I stall for weeks at a time. It's so frustrating.

You have done so well. Don't let 1 cookie sabotage the rest of your journey. Analyze your protein or fluid intake. Contact your nut to see what is causing the stall. Increase your exercise regime. You can do it! I know you can! I can't wait to lose 74 lbs. You done such a great job! Keep the momentum going!

Don't focus on the scale. Look at the inches you may have lost in your midsection, arms, thighs, etc.

Don't beat yourself up about it. It was a slip. Don't let it become a slide. Count it towards your daily calories like any other day and try to stay as close to your daily calorie budget as possible even with counting the cookie. Drink some extra water and walk a little extra tomorrow and move beyond it. Follow that oops with positive actions (like the water and extra walk) and not punishment.

One slip is not a failure. But how you deal with it and treat yourself in the afterwards can benefit you or bring you down. You have to choose. This surgery is not a race, its a journey and the bumps will happen.

Take care.

Thank you all for the kind responses. I had bad dreams all night, which I'm sure were due to the guilt I had. Then I woke up to find I'd gained a pound. It's crazy how sensitive my body is to bad food. Anyway, it's 6am and I'm already up drinking my water. I'm just going to reset my mind, forget about it and work toward my goal. :)

Everyone is entitled to one bad day. Don't beat yourself up and make yourself feel bad. You are doing great!!! I can't wait to drop 74 pounds!!!! That is so awesome! I am still pre-op and  I am only 14lbs down in 2 months. My weight comes off very slow no matter how hard I try.

Keep your head up and keep up the good work. It takes courage to get the VSG surgery and says a lot about your determination to be healthy. No one is perfect. So stop with the bad thoughts and celebrate yourself. YOU deserve to  be happy!

Don't be too hard on yourself.  Slips happen.  And as long as you don't let it throw you off plan, then its just one cookie.  Just don't use it as an excuse to give up.

Its important to stay on plan after the one cookie, as one cookie probably won't wake the carb-monster and start the cravings, but if it does, then you need to white-knuckle it to get thru the cravings.

You are doing so well. 74 pounds lost in 4 months is excellent!  Stalls are frustrating, but they are totally normal.  Remember that even when the weight is not falling, you are still burning fat if you are eating on plan.  Its just the body taking time to adjust to the weight loss.

best of luck,

Carol

One cookies does not mean failure unless you let it. Talk with your therapist about those feelings and figure out how to conquer them before they suck you down!

Be kind to yourself, this is not about having a perfect journey. We will never be perfect and are only setting ourselves up for failure if that is the standard. I think the goal for me is to learn new habits during this journey so by the time I get to maintenance I can maintain it. As far as the stall goes, the way everybody loses is different. Last month I didn't lose a pound for 2 weeks and then in the next 15 days I lost 14 pounds. I also had a 3 1/2 week stall starting one week after surgery. I know it is very unsettling, but just keep doing what you are supposed to do, don't let one choice on one day mess you up....the weight loss will happen. Good Luck.
