What does it mean when your tummy "doesn't tolerate" a particular food?
I've tried many things in the last several days since I've been on soft foods. I've had no issues with any of them. I've had spicy things, kinda greasy things, chicken, beef, pork, cheese, egg salad, no problems. I decided to make some baked pollock fish this afternoon for lunch. I used a little bit of butter and some minced garlic. I took about 2-3 bites and it was fine. I enjoyed the flavor, I was telling my husband about how delicious it was. I put the last bite in my mouth and before I even got it completely chewed up I started gagging. I knew it wasn't going to be able to be swallowed. I spit it out in the trash, sat down, and tried to pull myself back together. I sat there for a few minutes, and then the mouth watering started. I know it wasn't too much or too fast because I ate the same amount I usually do of other foods and I ate it even slower than normal because I loved the flavor so much and wanted to savor it. I ended up having to run to the bathroom and I had the infamous "foamies". This was the first time I had this since surgery. Is this what they mean by not tolerating a certain food? Will I not be able to eat white fish again? Should I try again in a few weeks? I'm so lost!!
I thought about the possibility of it being the butter too. I don't know though, I've had other foods with butter even over the weekend and had no issues. I'm almost scared to try again later, I did not like that feeling.
Hi I just wanna throw a life saver out there it has helped me more than anything in the world post surgery and forever! our bodies will have problems with nutrient absorption and breaking down tough foods I found an answer it's simple too but I don't wanna sound like I'm selling products lol so if your interested please message me ! And keep going you got this !
Was the fish dry? That's the only time I've had issues with things, is when they're too dry.

Weird! My NUT suggested waiting a month before trying things that gave me grief. So waiting a bit and trying again seems like a good plan. I love seafood and I order it often when I'm out these days!

The first time I threw up while eating (and it's only happened one other time after that, same reason) was because I ate too fast. I didn't have any issues with any foods I ate either, and I think that made me too comfortable with eating. So I didn't keep my meal to 30+ minutes and I got sick because of it. But since you say you were eating slowly, maybe just give it a few weeks before trying the fish again. And try it without the butter so you can see if the fish was the issue or if it was the butter.
If you get the foamies, then you ate too much, too fast. Mostly too much. You will learn after a while when you cannot get away with another bite. Some foods for a while might be only one bite. I remember my first Christmas when I was a little over two months out. I ate a one inch square of turkey and seven kernel of corn. It was a great holiday meal for me. Now I could eat a normal serving of both. Give yourself time.
