My Dumping Syndrome

I am 10 weeks post-op and just had my first "dumping" experience.  I usually drink an Unjury protein drink for breakfast but this morning I was distracted and skipped it.  Instead, I ate a handful of pistachios (very rich) and on top of that, about 10 chocolate covered raisins - 30 minutes later - I'm in the bathroom at work throwing up.  I am VERY THANKFUL for this dumping episode.  I am glad to know that it truly works.  My body will NOT let me abuse it any more - even in the tiniest way.  So very very thankful for this built-in governing mechanism.  No more chocolate for this girl!  Back to my wonderful Unjury strawberry sorbet protein breakfast (mixed with 3 oz. apple juice, water and lots of ice) - yummy!

I like your take on it! I felt the same way with my one and only dumping experience. :)

So sorry to hear you experienced this. But, this isn't a true case of "dumping" syndrome - rather just a case of eating too much and/or too quickly. Dumping syndrome occurs more often in bypass patients (but about 30% of them) and includes abdominal cramps, nausea, a rapid heartbeat, diarrhea, etc. From what I know from reading posts on the RNY forum - when you have dumping syndrome you are so incredibly ill that you will start asking someone to shoot you LOL.

I did have abdominal cramps and diarrhea - just didn't want to gross everyone out more than necessary.

You would have to post something a lot worse than that to gross us out.

That sounds more like overeating than dumping.

Good luck!

This can be dumping syndrome.  Some people with the sleeve experience rapid gastric emptying even though they have a pyloric valve.  As the other posters said, the most hallmark characteristics are the malaise (body sweats, etc.) with the diarrhea.

Dumping can vary in severity dependent on what was eaten and how your body is reacting to it.  Heavy fats and a sugars or simple carbs are the usual culprits.  You may have had an overeating reaction as well.  (They sometimes do occur together).

i get dumping from carb rich foods, but nausea is usually not involved as much as the cramps, runs, racing heart, sweating.
