Hi all,

I am going to be Sleeved by Dr.Kelly in January ...

I am beyond excited to meet Dr.Kelly and start my new way of life.

I am currently on medication for depression ... And have been for 10 yrs ... While speaking with him on the phone he mentioned that I need to be off ALL medications 2 weeks prior to my surgery.  For those of you who have suffered from depression how did you do with going off the meds?  I will be calling my doctor tomorrow so that I can start to wean myself slowly.

I want to start preparing myself for after ....

What vitamins will I need ....what kinds did you find easiest?   I live in the middle of nowhere ... The closest city is 3 hours away ..

Mine requires a multivitamin twice a day, b12, iron, and calcium - all of which much be chewable or liquid for the first three months.

Your surgeon and NUT should clearly lay out their requirements when you meet with them. I bought all on Bariatric Advantage brand on amazon for half the price and I like their favors.

The ASMBS recommends a multi with 100% of most vitamins and minerals, 1500mg of calcium citrate, b12, iron and vitamin D3 if needed.  I started off with all of mine from Bariatric Advantage.  (The ASMBS also recommends chewables for the first 3-6 months.)

I'd ask your surgeon specifically about your depression meds, and then I'd ask your PCP.

I had sleeve surgery in Mexico on 10/06/14 and the only medication that I had to be careful with are benzodiazepines because they will interferes with the medication that makes you go to sleep for the surgery. I am on 2 different depression medications and was told to take them all the way up to the day before the surgery and not the morning of the surgery. But check with the surgeon and ask him directly about the different medications you  take.

I'm having surgery on January 8th.  I haven't been told that I couldn't take my medication.  Only to not take any NSAIDS, like Advil or aspirin.  Thank goodness!
