My surgery is going to be Wednesday.  I read about this "leak test"..and you have to drink Barium?  Just wondering how you are supposed to do that ...because from what I have been reading you can barely drink and once of water.  How does that work?

You have to do the leak test, but I didn't have to drink barium. It was a water soluble drink and it was maybe an ounce or two. The dr told me that it can't be barium because if there is a leak you don't want that in your body. Don't worry it will be fine :)

Leak tests are 100% either...

I didn't have a problem drinking, but what I drank was the worst tasting stuff ever. It was the worst part of my surgery!  But cool at the same time because I could see it going down on a screen as I was sipping it. It's short lived and well worth it.  Congrats on your surgery!

they will have you take a couple of very small sips, they know what surgery you have had, obviously, and that you capacity is very small. It will be fine. Doesn't take much for them to track it on the X-ray screen.

I had my sleeve done on 11/5 and my surgeon used the blue dye in the OR, which will show leaks along the staple line. I never had to do a barium swallow

I never had issues with drinking liquids post-op, and you might not either.  One thing to remember is that most people post here when they're having issues, so what you see here is not representative of what everyone experiences.

I did have a leak test, but the only bad part for me was the vile taste of the stuff.

The bad taste was more than offset by the coolness of getting to watch it go through your system.

Aw, I'm jealous, I didn't get to watch!  (I'm not even sure I had my glasses on at that point to have been able to watch if they had let me, heh.)
