Post Op Gum Chewing? Should we?
I was told it was not a problem. I really don't see why it would be. We have a normal stomach just smaller.
I was told that it wouldn't be a problem, but if you think it is causing issues for you it might be worth experimenting and skipping the gum for two weeks to see if you notice any changes.

Hi Jackie. I used to love to chew gum before surgery because it helped me to not snack; however, post-surgery I have avoided it because I think it would interfere with drinking all of my liquids. For me, chewing gum masks thirst and I need to feel every tinge of thirst so that I get in at least 64 oz of liquids per day. Good luck.
Water is so easy for me that I get a gallon in on my 8 hour shift at work. I was doing two gallons but slowed down. If it is really an issue for you then that is something to consider.
Gum chewing is not a problem. That being said, if your gum is sugar free, you may be experiencing effects of the sugar alcohols being an excessive chewer that you describe. Some people get gassy or even get diarrhea from it.
