I am curious how people did after having VSG surgery over the age of 55. Especially interested in how they have done long term. ???

I just had surgery on 10/08/14 and I am 62 and have had a pretty good recovery and I am losing weight. I am not able to tell you anything about long term but I know this has given me a great start.

Had surgery on 9/9/14 and I am 61. I think it takes longer to recover, but I am doing well.

I am 67 and just starting to consider VSG. I was told my age would not be a problem.

I am 60, had surgery 10/24/2013. I have lost 133 lbs and still going. I feel better than I have in many, many years. I haven't seen this number on the scales since I was maybe 17, if then. I know when I was 16, I weighed 120 lbs. I broke my ankle and when I got my cast off, I had turned 17 and weighed 180 lbs. Once when I was 29, I weighed 162 for a day or two, but since then I never got below 204. I have weighed over 290 or 300 most of my adult life. Life is good right now.

I am 63, had surgery 5/14/14.  Had no issues with surgery and had excellent recovery.  The surgery has turned my life around.  I had so many co-morbidities pre-op.  Difficulty walking - I had to be wheeled to the Conference Room for orientation and informational meetings - now I can walk there for the support group meetings and can even mow my lawn in one sweep rather than taking 4-5 breaks.  I can move so much better.  Off blood pressure medications.  Less pain overall.  Better agility, can sit in any chair, can cross my legs, can get into tub for shower without assistance.

I have nothing bad to say about WLS.  The most difficult thing for me was the post-op liquid stage.  My surgeon and his team did everything necessary to me to have a safe surgery and speedy recovery.

Life is so much better - wish I had surgery years ago!!!  Long term -- I know I will always have to pre-plan meals, and log my menus to continue my weight loss and maintain it.  It's a lifetime commitment.

All I can say now is DO IT!!!!

I am 66 and having my surgery Nov 12.  I am so excited  I really don't want to live another year FAT...Even if Inever get skinny....i want to just be NORMAL.....My surgeon also said my age  is not an issue . I expect to have a little harder recovery....but so be it .  EVEY SINGLE MINUTE OF THE DAY....i am so self conscience of my weight.   This surgery for me is heaven sent.
