Hi Everyone,

I am so frustrated!  I was working out regularly (3x week) on my own, but I stopped for like 2.5 weeks.  During the time that I wasn't working I was losing weight pretty quickly.  Last week, I started working out with a personal trainer (2x week), and since I started working out with my PT I have gained 5 lbs!  It happened seemingly overnight.  I was down to 211, and now I'm back up to 216.  Any ideas on why I gained so fast??

I am no expert, but I believe it is related to inflammation triggered by your workouts.  It happens to me from time to time, I will feel a little achy from working out and gain 2-4 lbs.  I was sick last week and took off walking/running for 3 days.  Saturday I did a long walk of 5 miles and Sunday morning I was up 4 lbs.  This morning, I lost 3 of those lbs.

Your body does weird things with fluids and it will cause your weight to fluctuate.

Don't get caught up too much with these fluctuations, your weight trend is probably on a pretty good downward slope.  I know mine is.

Any time you change something up your body is likely to freak out for one reason or another.  Take a deep breath and keep at your plan.  It'll be okay!

Your body might be holding onto the weight cuz it doesn't know whats going on, once it figures out your workout routine is the new normal it'll let it go, at least that's what I think might be happening. The body is weird like that.

I'll just repeat what everyone else has said:  if you aren't eating any more then you aren't gaining any fat.  What's happening is that your body dropped the excess fluid when you stopped working out (no longer needed to cusion those muscles) and it has started storing it back up.  And yes, it that kind of water retention can literally happen overnight.

Give yourself a month or so and I'm sure you'll see the scale move down again.

Remember - a gallon of water weighs 8 lbs.!

Happened to me. I didn't work out for 11 weeks and lost a lot. Then I started again and the first week up 3 pounds. But the next week I lost 6 pounds. I think my muscles were holding onto water
