A good day
A little back story. My daughter and her 4 kids live with my wife and I and I have had to assume the father role in the grandkids lives.
I bought a decent mountain bike 2 weeks ago and yesterday we loaded up the bikes and the 2 older grandkids to go ride in a local park. Due to various problems with his bike, we ended up going and buying the oldest(10) a new bike. We all road for about 1.5 hours and we had a blast. The 8 year old was having trouble keeping up so afterwards, we went back to the bike shop and got him a bigger bike. When we got home, we took a quick 2 mile cruise around the neighborhood and he had no problems keeping up.
The weather was perfect, 73 degrees, sunny, light wind and no humidty. When I asked the oldest if he would rather be riding or playing video games, he said riding. That may be temporary but for now, I will take it.
7 months ago, riding a bike was just not an option. Yesterday, I had no problems. We would have ridden longer but we got a late start due to the problems with the oldest's old bike.

What a wonderful story and how nice that you can be a part of your grandkids lives. This surgery allows us to remain active and keep up with the kids. What a great role model you are and what a new lease on life this surgery provides. You are so fortunate to live where it is still 70! Enjoy.
I had my 2 youngest boys in my 40s and the last straw and tipping point to the surgery was when I couldn't physically keep up with them. Riding a bike became a chore. My husband is older as well so we really need to focus on our health raising our 10 and 11 year old as older parents. Instead of an all-inclusive beach vacation we are planing on skiing this spring. I never dreamed I would be able to fit into my ski pants that I wore 25 years ago and 90 pounds ago. For some reason I kept them all these years and now I am so glad I did. When I can fit into them I have reached my goal. Doesn't matter what the scale says.
Congrats! How nice to have a great built in network of biking buddies. And what a great example of healthfulness you're setting for your grandkids :)

Thanks everyone. Yes, I am trying to set a better example for the kids to get them outside and moving. Without this surgery, I doubt I could have done this. At least not this quickly.
