There isn't really a too much. Weight loss will slow over time, so just don't form unrealistic expectations based on early rate of loss :)

I'm shocked your doc says you can start working out now. Most of us are only allowed to walk for the first 6 weeks.  I'm glad I waited - I've read horror stories of people who have pushed too far, too fast. And now I do a lot of exercise, so it's not like 6 weeks of only being able to walk damaged me :D

Before you go to the gym, remember weight restrictions.  Pushing yourself at  lifting/pushing/pulling too much weight too soon may land you for a hernia repair.

I was required by my surgeon to wait at least 6 weeks before doing anything except walking.  In fact, I had a blood clot after surgery and my PCP wouldn't even let me sit in a car for an hour at a time for over 6 weeks.  I work with a personal trainer and he insisted I wait 8 weeks before working with him.  Take your time with heading back to the gym.  Your stomach is still healing and you don't want to do anything to injure it while it is still swollen and recovering.

You said you would walk the dog..... The only thing about that I would be concerned with is .... if the  dog jumps up on you, I would be afraid of the dog's claws scratching your stitches. Be careful.

I was just cleared last week (at 6 weeks post op) to go back to full workouts. Going by what your doctor said I would have been working out 4 days post op! I didn't have much pain. I would give your body a nice amount of time to heal. There is nothing wrong with walking, doing light eliptical while you heal, but I would wait for weights and other strenuous exercise for about a month.

Wow, back to work so soon? My doctor said at least 4-5 weeks off and I have an office job. It takes time for our new stomachs to heal, remember that. Take it slow.

I returned to work after one week - I guess everyone is different.
