9-month Surgiversary!

It’s my 9-month surgiversary!  I don’t have that many milestones to report on.  I’ve been plugging along nicely these last three months.  I’m working on taking care of myself and, many days, that feels like a full time job.  I’m feeling more and more comfortable with this new way of living – not the sort of comfortable where I’m slacking off, but the kind of comfortable where this way of living feels good and right to me.

Here are my milestones from the last three months.

10/4 – first pair of women’s sneakers and bra fitting
10/18 – Ran my first 5k!!
10/24 – bought jeans, size 16!
11/7 – BMI low enough that I no longer qualify for WLS
11/12 – started PT for shoulder
11/25 – 199 on the scale!

And here are the numbers and how they’ve changed.  Current numbers are in bold, starting numbers are on the left.

Bust 49.5 to 46.5 to 42 to 41
Chest ~43 to 40.25 to 36 to 35.25
Waist 50 to 44 to 41 to 38.25
Hips 59.5 to 54.5 to 51 to 47
T-shirts tight men’s XXL to baggy men’s XL to tight men’s M to loose men’s M
Jeans tight 28 to baggy 26 to no idea - switched to skirts to 16!
Weight (actual) 292.4 to 253.1 to 219.4 to 197.6
Weight (trend) 295.5 to 256.6 to 222.4 to 199.1
Fat % (trend) 54.5 to 48.6 to 42.9 to 40.0
Fat Mass (trend) 161 to 124.7 to 95.5 to 79.7
Lean Mass (trend) 134.5 to 131.9 to 126.9 to 119.4
Percent excess weight loss 13% to 33% to 50% to 61%

I’m super thrilled with these numbers.  Especially the fat mass and lean mass ones.  (And if you look at my numbers since I started lifestyle change in January, it’s an even greater change!)

Life is pretty amazing for me.  I’m busy with exercising, my hobbies, my family, and everything else that fills my days.  I’m still trying to work out my copper toxicity issue.  The current theory is that it’s actually a result of iron deficiency, something I’ve had issues with since I was a kid.  I’ll get more labs in February, before my year follow-up with the surgeon, and, hopefully, my increased iron supplementation will have fixed things.

I’m doing around 13 hours of exercise a week, something that I never even imagined could be possible.  And, even more surprising, I enjoy it all.  I’m more active in general – I helped my parents move ~2 cords of wood last month and didn’t even whine once.  I feel like I’m a better person.  I’m more self-sufficient and I’m more willing to help others when it comes to physical tasks.  I like this new person.

I did have to start physical therapy for my right shoulder.  It had been causing me a lot of grief and no amount of stretching and ice was making it better.  I saw my orthopedist who ruled out damage and sent me to therapy.  My therapist’s best guess is that it’s a weight loss thing and my bones and muscles just haven’t adjusted to their new positions yet.

I’m also still having this weird nipple thing with my left nipple, it keeps inverting which is very, very bizarre.  I can’t feel it, but it weirds me out.  I had a mammogram and everything is fine.  My obgyn believes that it’s just a side effect of weight loss.  Very strange!  I hope that it sorts itself out eventually.

And if you haven't noticed in my signature below, I moved my blog off of LJ to a self-hosted (and blissfully adfree) site - https://www.myvsg.net/

Congratulations! That's quite a success story, I'd say. Hope you continue this great path. You seem so happy and well-adjusted to this lifestyle. A great role model!
