When do you start to feel normal??

So I know some of our newly sleeved members have asked this question before but I can't seem to find the posting so here it is again. I am just a tad bit frustrated because I am 3 weeks out and I can only take 2-3 bites (with a baby spoon) of food and I am full? I feel like I am never going to be able to have a 3-4 oz meal again becuase 3 spoons of soup and I am stuffed?? So when do I start to feel like I can actually eat a 3 oz meal? I can barely get in my protein cause I can barely eat anything.....Ok, no complaints on that because the weight loss is AWESOME-Sauce, but I worry I am not getting enough food and of course, the silly irrational monster starts making me think I am going to end up malnutriontioned. Any pointers for this obvious newbie on when I may start to feel a bit normal?

Enjoy the restriction -- let it catapult your initial weight loss.  Use shakes to get you to your protein goals.

Honestly -- you will never feel your old normal again.  You will find a new normal.  For me it happened probably close to week 8 and continued to evolve.  You will be able to eat more and more as time passes -- make sure you take this time to retrain yourself to go for healthy food!

Cool, thanks for the tip. I didn't think about letting this time be my "retrain the brain" time so that when I can eat more, I will know how to portion my food....I like it, thank you Stacy!

It was months before I could eat 3 oz. at a time.  My husband had this surgery back in April and he is just now getting to the point where he can do 3 or almost 4 ounces.

You have plenty of fat stores to survive on for a long, long time.  Make sure you are getting your water and taking your vitamins and getting all the protein you need through supplemental shakes.  And you'll be fine!

Ok well, you definitely got 1 thing right, I got fat for days, months, dare I say years!!!  so I see your point. I will stop trying to rush into a regular meal, I need this time to figure out what a regular meal is now, cause it's NOT what I used to be able to eat so thanks for hushing my silly irrational monster!

IIt takes time, but embrace it!  The first 6-9 months was a honeymoon period for me and the weight slid off.  After that, you will definitely need to work more at it!

Just make sure you get your protein in and sip, sip, sip!

When did you have your surgery mom?  You were exactly where I started and where I want to end up so I was wondering how long It took you to get where you are now.

The swelling in my tummy went down in week 7.  Before that I could only eat about 1 to 1.5 ounces per meal.  After that, it went up to 2.5 ounces.  Now at 18 months post op, I can eat 6 to 8 ounces per meal.

It takes a while, but you do get to a point where it feels normal again.  Keep up the good work.

I was just in today for my first postop visit (2 wks after surgery), and my dietician said that everyone will heal/get back to "normal" at different times, especially if, like me, you had hiatl hernia surgery along with the sleeve. My recovery will take about twice as long as most, but I had twice the surgery, so just take it one day at a time. I don't mind the delay so much, I've had many other surgeries that taught me to have patience; if your doctor did their job, and you do your job, most likely all will fall into place within a reasonable amount of time. Healing takes time, and use this time to treat yourself special - not with food, but maybe by doing special things, going to special places, meeting with special friends. Especially since it is holiday time, there are lots of things to do that can take your mind off the eating!
