"Why can't you just go on a diet?".

"But you're not that big"

"Just cut out junk food and you'll lose the weight"

"Will lose your curves?"

"Why can't you just be happy with the way you look?"

I'm in the process of completing my 6 month supervised diet, then I should be having surgery in July. I've only told a few people about the sx because I tend to be very private, in return I've gotten some incredibly ignorant and insensitive responses.

I think the people in my life tend to underestimate how much I actually weigh and how uncomfortable I am. I don't know how to respond to those comments aside from ripping off all my clothes and doing the truffle shuffle for them so they can see my fat up close and personal.

I'm 285 lbs and 5ft tall, aka morbidly obese (pics in my profile). I said that to a friend of mine the other day and she actually said "are you sure?". What kind of question is that? Of course I'm sure. That number stares at me every day when I step on the scale.

I don't know how to make others understand that my weight is dangerous and this surgery is necessary if I want to live to see my children have babies.

1. You can't make everyone happy.

2. You can go crazy trying.

3. So, just make you happy.

You don't need to make them understand.

While I've been really open with my surgery post-op, I only told a few close people pre-op.  I would have blown up at people who had asked me these ignorant questions!

But it would probably be best to have a sort of script to deflect/redirect when people ask things like this.  "I'm really happy with my decision to take control of my health through surgery.  How about the game last night/the weather/the newest Game of Thrones episode?"

thin people don't know what its like to be heavy , when you 10 lb over weight you can lose by dieting not when you 100 lb

congress did a studyn a few years back and 95% of people that needed to lose 50 lb or more ether did not lose it with dieting or pills

or gained it all back and more after losing the weight

wls is the only proven way to lose a large amount  of weight and keep it off , till they invent brain surgery to fix people from over eating

 you look great

I set my goal weight at 140. That means I need to lose 145 lbs. Thats an entire person, and technically 140 is still overweight for my height.

I've lost an entire normal weighted 5'4" woman already and still have 75 pounds to go.

Sigh.

Anyone who would like to tell me that I should have just gone on a diet can suck it ;)

I hear the same thing along with everyone I know who has done this is miserable and gains the weight.  I just keep moving forward.  My decision has been made.
