Is it possible to get gallstones while taking Ursodiol daily to prevent them?  (My doctor has me taking it for 6 months after my surgery).  Has anyone had gallstones after they completed taking all prescribed Ursodiol? Thanks!

Took Ursodial for about 9 months - no stones and no stones to date - over 3 years out.

Yep I took it for a full year after my lap band and a couple of years later had to have my gall bladder out.

Thank you for the information! Lets me know that if I have symptoms down the road, not to rule gallstones out. Thanks again for sharing.

I don't know about the medication you are taking but I recently read that 30% of WLS individuals will develop gallstones and need gall bladder surgery.  Sounds like it is inevitable for many of us.

The gastroenterologist  who prescribed it for me said it's not a guarantee but it does reduce your odds of getting gallstones.

My surgeon actually doesn't prescribe it. He says the new studies he has seen say that it doesn't help prevent gallstones for WLSers. I didn't take it, and have never had a gallbladder issue.
