May be TMI but have question on first BM after surgery

i was sleeved on January 19th and I still have not had a BM. I was at Drs on Monday and they suggested I try a laxative to make sure to get things moving. I've had 1/2 dose of miralax 2days and still no BM. Did anyone else have an extended time before it happened?  My dr does 2 weeks full liquid so I'm still in liquid phase.

I went about a week without a BM right after surgery. It's a combo of surgery, narcotic pain meds and lack of intake. I'm currently taking miralax daily and still going a few days in between movements.

Remember, your intake is nominal at this point therefore you won't have much waste to produce.

Stay hydrated and if needed, use a laxative, just don't make a habit of it as your bowels can aquire a need for them.

It was 12 days before my first poop and it took 2 days of Milk of Magnesia to work and when finally it did work it wasn't fun. Ahem. Of course, talk to your surgeon but definitely try MOM. I was on Miralax from day 2 and it did nothing. Once things started working again all I have needed is the Miralax and very ocasionally I had prunes.

Miralax takes 3-7 days to work.  Is there a reason you're only taking a 1/2 dose instead of a full dose?

My surgeon advised me to take Milk of Magnesia but the taste made me gag and dry heave when I was early out so I couldn't get it down.  Instead, he gave me Lactolose.  It's a flavorless syrup and works just as good.  I didn't have a BM for 2 weeks and by the end of the second week is when I got the lactolose.  It made me go but it was pure agony.

I had the same problem. My surgeon suggested Dulcolax because the Miralax wasn't working. I swear I lost 2 extra pounds when it was all said and done.

Not having problems now but I have no fall bladder so that helps.

I have always thought about the Ron White joke, you ever take a dump so big your pants fit better?  Now I think, you ever take a dump so big you break a stall?

I went about a week after my lapband.  The Dr told me to buy some stool softner. The bottle was like $10 at CVS and had like a hundred pills. So instead I bought a 1/2 gal of apple cider.  Took me a while to drink the whole thing but I was running to the bathroom when it kicked in.  Problem solved.

Ahh the dreaded no poop problem. So here is a few things I have done that have helped. If you really need to go then get some glycerine suppositories. They work instantly. Also miralax is safe so drink away. Also I found adding ground flax seed to my shake helped. You need to check on that one because your staple line is still fresh. One other thing that helped me but it is carbonated so again check was drinking a bottle of magnesium citrate. I was told not to go more then three days with out going so please call them if you can't go.
