I'm 14 months out and have never started. I will if I ever have an unexplained stall, but until then just journaling what I eat works best for me.

I don't count calories, I count protein & carbs. Every doctor and NUT is different. Check with your doctor and see what they prefer you to do.

GoBlueGirl....how many carbs to you eat in a day? My program tells me to limit my sugar to 5 grams or less per serving. I tried to get my NUT to give me a number on total carbs but she will not. I know I can over do it on carbs (not just sugar) if I'm not careful.

I was told to to keep my carbs below 50. Most days I'm at 40. My splurge is cereal once or twice a week and my carbs go up those days.

Me too, my NUT has me counting water, protein and carbs. I'm guessing you wouldn't have to start counting calories until you start eating 3 meals per day. You definitely don't need to count calories on puree stage.

I've been counting calories (and proteins, carbs, fats etc.) since the beginning. I am on full liquids now and was told to not go below 600 calories/day and not above 1,000 calories/day). Some days I find it hard to get to 600.

I count protien and everything else should be right there is so little room that after you eat your protien and some low carb veggies there is no room for high carb food

I count protein and carbs.  I just printed out my 30 day reports to take to the doctor visit today and is the first time I checked the calories and fats.  Like the above poster said, once you get in your protein and some carbs, there's no room for much else.  If you keep your protein and carbs in line, then the rest is usually going to be low.I will be 6 weeks out tomorrow.

I started counting calories at about 6 months post op, but I pay more attention to protein.  I try to stay at around 1000 calories a day.  My doc and nut said not to worry about counting calories ever.  They said as long as I'm eating right I won't eat too much.
