I know I know splenda etc is horrible. I am a year and half (almost 2 years) out and can have coffee and I tend to like a little something in mine. What is your thought on Stevia? Same as splenda, just as bad? If there isn't something carb free that's not horrible out there I will stick to black coffee... but just checking. Everyone here always has great ideas and suggestions.

THanks!

I like the flavor of both Splenda and stevia.  I use more Splenda. You will have to determine if either are good/harmful.

I strictly use Stevia. I transitioned to it during my pre-op diet.  I don't use it often, but when I need a sweetner....that is what I use.

Try Truvia. It is stevia based. It has a far better taste than straight Stevia to me (I don't like the bitterness of Stevia). Truvia also doesn't raise blood sugar levels, which is an added benefit.

Admittedly I use Splenda, too.

From everything I've read, truvia should be avoided.  It's derived from Stevia, but contains other additives that are not so great.

I suppose it's how you interpret the info. Even in the livestrong article it says Truvia is considered safe. I think we all need to take care with the fake crap anyhow. If it ain't real, there's a risk.

Thank you all for your replies. I will consider all of the things mentioned. I guess I am not the only one using a little sweetener at times

I use Stevia- but an very VERY particular about the brand. Many versions out there blend a bunch of crap in with the Stevia. The version I use is 100% Stevia, no fake crap given Stevia is plant derived. Kairk is correct in that it can be bitter, however, if it is bitter that is an indicator that you used too much... at least of the brand I recommend. I use less than 1/16 of a teaspoon in coffee. This stuff appears pricey, but the bag last for months due to using such a tiny amount in a cup of coffee. Give it a whirl! Stevia by Nature's Candy
