Pondering food choices

I had friends over for dinner last night, and it went very well. All the foods I made were healthy, and I had a feast that was totally on plan! I was comparing this with the birthday party I went to last weekend where I totally blew my diet because everything was high carb. It was all delicious and irresistible from appetizer to desert, and I didn't resist.

But I was thinking how I enjoyed my healthy Ginger beef with mushrooms and spinach as much as I enjoyed the lasagna and lobster mac and cheese last week. I enjoyed the fruit salad as much as I liked that yummy birthday cake. I enjoyed my humus and veggies as much as all those high-carb appetizers.

Eating healthy can be just as satisfying as not. Its all about choices.

Did I mention? I love my sleeve.

Carol

P.S. I got the ginger beef recipe from my gym. I'll post it on the recipe forum.

I completely and utterly agree. Whenever we go out to eat (at least once a week) I am always astounded that it is difficult to put together a complete meal that is healthy. In some chain restaurants, I am reduced to ordering soup. I don't get it personally. Yes, the lobster mac and cheese is delicious and I am not saying to take it off the menu, but I hope that the current trend of our society is moving ever so slowly toward healthier eating will provide choices and will find better options easily.

This is so very true! And I bet your friends felt better, too, even if they didn't realize they were eating well in every sense of the word.

And what a great reminder that we don't have to avoid these situations altogether, especially as the big holidays approach, especially if we are in charge of at least part of the food.

By the way, thank you for posting recipes on the recipe forum. It looks like an ultra quiet forum but I know that I look thru it regularly and have enjoyed some of your recipes. As soon as I saw "healthy" and "feast" I wondered what the menu was.

Healthy food prepared at the height of freshness is the best in the world! I've always loved vegetables, but now, when they're not overshadowed by overdone and fatty entrees (however tasty), they're becoming spectacular. I've been experimenting with Japanese cooking and am learning to prepare chicken, fish, tofu and vegetables in ways that keep their flavor and nutrition, with flavor enhanced by special seasonings and broth.

And the best side effect of real, non-processed food, as if the taste and nutrition weren't enough, is the incomparable sense of good health it imparts. It has reduced my cravings for junk carbs to almost zero. I don't long for sweets and other empty carb calories when my sleeve is filled with a good shabu-shabu (Japanese stew) made from tofu or chicken, tender-crisp vegetables, and a savory, mouth-watering broth.

You're right, cappy. The sleeve is the best!

For once, frisco, I'm not envious of your delicious looking dinner. I had dinner with friends and they made grilled lobster tail, asparagus, zucchini, and portobellos. They know about my surgery and always make sure I have a healthy protein and a few cooked fresh vegetables. I'm a happy sleever tonight!
