Does it ever become 2nd nature?

Okay so I'm sure it does but I just feel like I had to ask. Does eating and drinking your liquids ever become 2nd nature? Right now I am not quit 3 weeks post - op and I feel like all I do is watch the clock.

I am on purees and will be moving to soft foods soon. According to my guide and my nutritionist I should be eating 5/6 times a day and drinking no more than 6 oz an hour. Between the eating taking 30 minutes and then waiting another 30 minutes to drink anything I just don't feel like I have enough time in the day to get in my 64 oz. And on top of that I'm only eating about 4 times but I am making sure I get all of my protein in. I just feel a bit like a baby on a schedule with all this and the vitamins.

Anyway thanks for letting me vent and if you have any tips/suggestions that would be wonderful!

yes you will get used to it and in the future you will eat 3 meals and maybe a snake to get all your protien in and will be able to drink a 20 oz water in like 1/2 hour

just follow your plan and all will be great

I just had to chime in because I LOL'd about what was probably an auto-correct change to your post. But, if I ever had to eat a snake to get my protein in, I'd be in trouble.

I am on the exact same schedule as you. Right now I have to set a timer for every 30 minutes to get my food and liquids in. I have next week of soft foods then I go back to work. I have no idea how I am going to do this schedule at work. I hope it gets better for both of us.

I started back to work part time this past Wednesday. I go back full time on Monday. Hopefully your employer is as accommodating as mine and you are able to have liquids with you. I found that is was easier to do a protein drink instead of trying to fit 30 minutes in for a meal. Best of luck to you and let me know how it goes.

At a year plus out, its totally second nature. I eat when I'm hungry and drink when I'm thirsty. I usually end up eating every 3-4hrs which my dr. is happy with.

It does get easier -- MUCH EASIER. I never thought it would, but at about 3 months things definitely turned around for the better for me. They will for you, too. In the meantime, enjoy the rapid weight loss!!

Thanks to those who are reassuring that it will be second nature one day, hopefully soon. I am almost three months out and still find myself forgetting I will be hungry in 3-4 hrs and if I wait too long I will get queasy feeling. Took a mouth full of drink right after dinner last night and almost threw up. I knew better but somehow just did it. Can't wait till all this is "normal".

Yes, over time it will, that's not much help now, but it will get better.

It was very hard for me at first, just like you said, how am I supposed to do all these things AND get enough protein AND enough water??

I'm 10 months out as of yesterday, I can easily get my water in, usually 10 or more glasses and although I still need a protein drink in the morning (my restriction is still very tight) I always get at least least 60 grams of protein per day. You'll be able to do that too. Be patient with yourself.

Take it one day at a time you'll get there!

I have some trouble with eating, in that it's too fast. I catch and pace myself. We were expecting this 3 months out, so working on it with my therapist. As for liquids, drinking is pretty easy. I have none of the issues I did a few weeks after surgery. I still pace myself with liquids.

Even with eating, I am definitely struggling to get my protein in. One day I made poor protein choices and could not manage to eat it all. I have been more careful since. Water is much easier.

I'd say I eat 3-4 times a day, 20g of protein per meal, usually. I still don't have room for other stuff with protein first.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
