Hi all. Initially my surgery was scheduled for 12/23/15 but today my surgeon's office called and asked if they could move me up 6 days to 12/17/15 without hesitation I said yes. It works so much better for me I won't be in the hospital on Christmas or Christmas eve. I am starting to get nervous as it rapidly approaches though. Anyone have any words of wisdom or encouragement to dispense to me pretty please? I don't even know what I should pack in my bag I mean I know clean comfy clothes to go home in, but what else?

Grats!

Honestly, I didn't use a thing that I packed in my bag until it was time to put those clean, comfy clothes on. Wait, strike that, I did try to brush my teeth, but I choked on the toothpaste (a common problem for me) and vomited. :/

Wishing you an uneventful surgery and an easy recovery! Good luck on your weight loss journey. ((Hugs))

Thank you! I'm nervous mostly because I am an anxious person. But I know it's going to be great I have utmost confidence in my surgeon he is a lovely doctor. I definitely know I need hygiene stuff and lip balm because my lips get so dry. As we speak I'm sitting her picking at dry skin on them, but I know I am not dehydrated because I can't stop peeing from all the water I just get so dry in winter. I hope I don't get sick from toothpaste. Thanks for the support I truly need it right now

All I used from my packed bag was my phone, my lip balm, my robe, my toothbrush and toothpaste, and my comfy clothes to go home in.  I packed much more than that, including make-up, which made my daughter laugh out loud.

Good luck!

Oh yeah I don't bother with makeup usually anyway so that won't be packed haha. Definitely will have lip balm and clothing. Thank you for your reply!

I just had surgery on Monday. A change of comfy clothes to wear home, hygiene, chapstick, phone chargers were the only items I used when I packed my bag.

You will do great! The  surgery itself was not bad. I've not had anything for pain. My stomach just feels like I've done a ton of sit ups. I bought me a one ounce shot glass to drink out of so I know I am getting an ounce every 10 min.

When you get nervous, just remember this is just a small step to a healthier new you! You are strong!

Thank you Tink! Smart idea with the shot glass, I have many in my house. I used to collect them and now need to get rid of most of them, but I will definitely use one the way you are. I'm mostly nervous because I've never had any surgery or ever had to stay in the hospital overnight.

Congratulations! Copied and pasted from a recent post (not just for packing in your bag, but stuff you might need).

Side note - your font makes it difficult to read from a laptop, not sure if tablet users experience it too...

  • Crystal Light - various flavors. My number one...
  • Sugar free popsicles were a must have for me. Popsicle brand only (store brands like Kroger/Publix are sweetened with sorbitol and did a number on my stomach).
  • A step-stool to get up and in to my bed
  • Miralax
  • Ready to drink protein shakes in a few different flavors
  • Plastic 3 oz cups to pour shakes in to (so that I could refrigerate the rest until ready)
  • Dannon Lite & Fit protein yogurt (no fruit) - check w/your plan on when this is ok
  • Various broths
  • A white noise machine in the hospital since I was right outside the nurse's station
  • Pads/tampons (There are a few of us that started periods that weren't due...I wasn't due for 2 weeks)

Congratulations on your date being moved up.  You'll be feeling much better by Christmas this way!

I took way too much stuff to the hospital.  So if in doubt, leave it home.

I took my own night gown so I could get out of the hospital johnie.  The hospital provided shampoo and soap, so I didn't need that. Bring comfy clothes to wear home, and have a pillow in the car to put under the seat belt for the ride home.   I brought books and puzzles and knitting, but I found I slept the whole time I was in the hospital.  But I also recovered fast, and was sent home a day early.  I might have needed more if I stayed longer.

My surgery was such a piece of cake.  I had little pain, and no nausea due to the strong anti-nausea drugs I asked for.  I did feel like I had the flu for about 3 days, but by day 5, I was doing pretty well.  The process of getting used to my new tummy was not fun, but not terrible.  But it was clearly the bigger challenge.

Try not to worry.  You'll probably do great, and if not, you can worry later!

best wishes,

Carol
