Dread turned into happy dance....

Hello campers. Just thought I would share an experience from this weekend. This past holiday my better half and I went for a three day weekend up in Reno, had a marvelous albeit expensive weekend, but it was marvelous none the less. I am six a half months out from surgery and the morning we left for Reno I was 132 pounds lost and counting.

Well, I will admit, I was 90% a good boy on this trip, I had my protein shakes for breakfast when I got up, when we went to the buffet, I basically stuck to the proteins for the most part, skipped the desserts and carried on. I still felt like I ate too much, but chalked it up to eating only twice a day instead of more smaller meals through out the day.

Well on Saturday night, our casino host took us out to dinner at their high end steak house they have at the resort. OMG. We show up and sit at the table, and apparently when he made the reservation, he had an appetizer already ordered to come out. It was a seafood appetizer with oysters, snow crab, humongous shrimp (about 5-6 inches long) and lobster meat. All of it was chilled. I picked and chose through it and to be honest, I should have stopped there. Unfortunately I had already ordered the filet, and I was going to just leave it, too bad it wasn't able to be brought home, but it looked so awesome. So I nibbled a bit, cut it up, moved it around so to speak to make it look like I ate more than I did and I called it done.

Next thing I know, here comes cheesecake, I suppose the staff there knows our host and that he razzles and dazzles select guests, so here it is, he's like have some, I inform him I don't really eat sweets but thanks. He's responds, it's not dense, it's pretty light, more like a cheesecake mousse. I'm teetering on the edge here, my g/f who likes cheesecake who felt stuffed beyond measure, jumped over that edge and took a bite and was like OMG, that's the best she has ever ate in her life. I guess when she jumped over the edge, she grabbed my arm and off the cliff I went too. I had one small bite. I was like, just puree it up and stick in a vein of your choice. I had them box the rest of it up and we took it back to the suite where she ate the rest of it the next day.

So fast forward to this morning, I went to step on the scale, fearing I was going to have gained a couple of pounds from the trip and to my surprise, I had actually lost another pound to a total of 133 pounds lost and counting. The reason I share this story even though I know the haters out there are going to hate anyways, is to stress a point here. Life doesn't stop just because you had surgery, every day is an adventure and you should enjoy it, otherwise what's the point? I am not saying go pig out on whatever, but be smart about it and you will enjoy your journey that much more. I think another reason the scale was in my favor was that I was walking around more than I normally do, so that's another reason I decided to share this experience. If you don't exercise you will seriously slow your weight loss. Even if your exercise is only walking, keep it up, with the weather getting nicer and nicer, being outdoors is great. Go. Enjoy.

Just a bit of advice....this was a special situation and I think you handled it great. Don't let this one little bite, I didn't gain moment lead to another and another. Try not to go down that road until you have reached goal and then maybe never!  The more time you live your new life style the more chance it will become your life style  I didn't have one bit of anything not on my eating plan until 18 months after I reached goal and it was sour dough bread LOL

You are doing GREAT!  Keep up the great job

Thanks. Also I don't go down that road very often. We took a 8 day trip back in March to Oregon and I gained 7 pounds on the trip, granted I lost it within a week once I came back home, and that weight gain was mostly from how sodium laced processed food is, but when you are out and about and without the access to your own kitchen, it is what it is. In fact, I am going back on another 3 day weekend this upcoming weekend, believe me when I say, I am just as vigilant as I always am. I already have a case of my protein shakes sitting right next to my luggage ready to go for the weekend.
