Over it

Ok I need to vent. I have spent the last year getting to know this new little tummy. I've lost weight and plowing toward maintenance . I'm so tired of people's jaws dropping or the loud embarrassing "OMG" look at you....so on so forth.

really? Why do people still think it's appropriate to make comments. No one would dared have told me how fat my butt was before but feel so free to embarrass me in he middle of a busy hallway.

i can't be by myself. Sigh thankful for everyday, but I'm over it when does the madness stop?

It will stop in a few years when people get used to the new you. Use that as motivation to maintain. If you regain, people start talking all over again!!

This is such a strong motivator for me.  There's that negative voice in the back of my head that says, "Everyone is just waiting for you to fail."   While I hate that I have this voice in my head, I try to channel it for good.

I think people really do intend for their comments to be complimentary, so I've chosen to treat them that way.

They will eventually just become accustomed to the new you, and stop talking about it. But when they stop, some get irritated by the lack of attention. It goes both ways.

Most people like to talk about themselves. You could quickly redirect the conversation toward them.

Carol: Oh, look at how much weight you've lost.

You: Oh, thanks. slightest pause Wow, where did you get those earrings? I love them.

Or: Did you see the newest Walking Dead? Holy cow, I can't believe they killed off X.

I always maintained my loss was pretty boring and redirected the conversation, eg, 'Nothin'to see here'.

I always took comments about my weight loss as compliments and was happy to get them. Going from Jabba the Hut to tiny woman resulted in greatly improved health -- always my primary goal -- but the only thing people were able to see was the change in appearance.

Losing a lot of weight is somewhat like becoming famous: Your goal is to feel better (actors want to achieve success), but both achievements mean you have to accept that you're now an object of attention, unwanted or not. Comes with the territory.

Enjoy your stardom while it lasts. The public is fickle and will soon get bored with you.

I believe comments like this are meant as compliments and I just say Thank You.  If they start talking about how they need to do something with their weight, sometimes I'll tell them I had surgery (depends on my relationship with the person). Often the person is really interested in hearing about it because they have contemplated it.  I know that years ago when I saw people who lost a lot of weight and I heard that they had the surgery I wanted to know the same.
