So ive been eating dense proteins for two days now, after a regain from eating sweets! What the H*ll was I thinking being vegetarian for so long after getting sleeved?? I was 204 on Friday night. I weighed in today at 196.2 (I swear). Im feeling so motivated to keep this up and reach my goal! I wish that there was an app or something that would let us see our bodies at a certain weight. My goal is 150, I pulled that out of the air, but im afraid that I will be too thin at that weight! Some people like being thin, but in my case I'm the complete opposite! When I start to lose weight for some reason it always falls from the neck and face first. I don't want my clavicles to stick out, thats the neck bones btw! I just want to be healthy, and maintain! Now that I think of it im going to take a look at a bmi chart and see the healthy weight range for my body, and set a real goal!! How did you guys come up with your goal weights?

Actually 150, puts me right at a normal bmi range, so I guess thats why I chose it in the 1st place. As sad as it may sound looking back at life I remember being 150 in the 6th grade! Smh.

This site might be useful - you can plug in stats and see other people's bodies that fit what you've selected.

Clavicles are actually collar bones.

I came up with my goal weight using this -- http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm

You should talk with your plastic surgeon, in theory they'll be able to evaluate whether you should lose more weight, etc.  And, of course, it depends on how tall you are.  You probably should lose weight until your face/neck looks "too thin" because your weight will redistribute in a year or so.  So for your weight to be healthy, you'll probably need to go through a period of looking "too thin."

I'm not surprised you lost weight when you cut out the carbs.  I always gain weight when I succumb to carbs, and lose it again when I cut them out.

In terms of goal, I changed my goal over time because I had no sense of what was reasonable or what I'd feel like at different weights.  I finally decided on 160 pounds which put me in the high end of the Normal BMI range.

So I'd suggest you pick a reasonable goal, knowing you can revise it with time as you see fit.

best wishes,

Carol

Good on you! Protein is the way to go, and I'm generally very skeptical of those who say they can be incredibly successful with a veg*n lifestyle post-op.

I think a lot of people worry about looking "too thin," partly because our mental images of ourselves are heavy. I look at pictures of myself from when I hit goal, 150lb at 5'5", and think I look gaunt-- but I know that's sort of biased. The more you get used to seeing it in the mirror, the more comfortable it may get. Luckily, you can lose to a point, see if that's where you want to stay, and keep going if you like. Your sleeve is there forever!

Personally, my goal weight was sort of accidental. I set 160 because it was smaller than I'd been in my adult life, even though it was still "overweight" by BMI. Got there, decided I could keep going, and lost another 10lb before I called it quits. After having a baby, 160 is a more comfortable number, especially since my non-scale goals (no CPAP, no BP meds, able to ride my bike 25mi on a regular basis) are still very secure :)

You made the decision to have this surgery for many reasons.....to be healthy and look good etc...you're right to set your goal weight at a healthy bmi even if it's at the high end. A rule of thumb....go a little lower than your goal so that you have some wiggle room.  So if your goal is 150, try to get to 145 ( you're still in the honeymoon stage so it won't be hard).  If you get to 148-149, evaluate what you are eating, cut back etc so that you don't hit 150.

Water, protein, vitamins, some veggies, and undereating your sleeve will get the weight off and keep it off.  I am glad you're moving in the right direction.  Keep on keeping on

I'm 5'6. My initial goal was 160 because I remember that being what I weighed in HS. I got there after 7 months and kept going. I decided 155, then 150, then 140, then 135. I never made it to 135, the lowest I got was 138.8. Now I'm maintaining between 150-155. I'd like to get back to 140 and hold there, but I'm having a really hard time cutting out the carbs to be able to do that. My husband is happy where I'm at and I tend to use that as a reason not to lose any more.
