Whatcha eating today? Tuesday, 9/27/2016

Good morning.  I had planned on eating popcorn during the debate last night.  I had not planned that I would also NEED chocolate.  Luckily a box of chocolates had arrived from Norway earlier in the day, so I had about 4 ounces of delicious Norwegian milk chocolate which is way better than American milk chocolate!  No regrets here.

Aside from that, I didn't do well with food yesterday.  I stuck to my meal plan, but I only ate about half of what I should have since I just wasn't interested in food/hungry.  It sucked.  I didn't even finish my protein shake.  :/  I interpret this as a sign of my current depression, but I have an appointment scheduled with my therapist for Thursday.  In the meantime, I'm plugging along.  Today is my first lecture exam for Anatomy and Physiology, so I'll be studying for most of the rest of the day!

That said, this is my hopeful meal plan:

1: protein shake
2: leftover skirt steak, omg love skirt steak
3: quest bar between lecture and lab if necessary
4: leftover smoked brisket when I get home if necessary and if there's any left.  Otherwise, more skirt steak.  (I'll only do 3 OR 4, just depends on what my brain needs and when.)

liquid and vites: on track
exercise: w3d3 of Zombies Run 5k training and I'm about to do my 30 minutes of post-run yoga stretching

How about you?

Luckily depression is something I have never suffered from but I am married to a man that has it about every 6 to 8 week cycles, lasting from 2 to 4 weeks with PTSD from the war to top it off. I hope that your therapy session goes well.

I have never had Norwegian chocolate before but hear about it all the time. I need to try it...or maybe I shouldn't lol!

Yesterday was a weird taste bud day for me. Everything tasted weird. Protein shakes tasted rotten and the crystal light flavor I drink every day tasted way too sweet. Even the chili I ate tasted sweet but it didn't the night before. Today seems better.

B - Protein shake

L - Baked chicken leg & quinoa

S - Protein shake

D - Chili

I'm sure I will add another protein snack in somewhere.

Water & vits - on track

E - walking

I'm sorry about your partner's PTSD.  My partner and I both deal with it too - his is significantly worse than mine, though.  He has found Topamax to be a huge benefit.  While I've had chemically induced depression before, I feel like the current trigger is upcoming surgery that my partner needs to have combined with grieving for my dad, which is flaring right now because I can't talk to my dad about the upcoming surgery :P  Awful how these things compound, eh?  I'm sure my therapist will provide me with some good insights.  She's pretty fantastic.

Norwegian chocolate is pretty awesome.  Sadly my partner has yet to tell his parents that my favorite is the kind with hazelnuts (called Firklover), so they only ship HIS favorites.  So unfair!

Weight about the taste bud thing - are you getting sick maybe?  That seems to be when my taste buds get all screwy!

The weather is changing here with the first front of the season so that is very possible. I guess I will find out soon enough! Maybe I should bump up my vit C. Good suggestion about getting sick!

I will tell him to look into Topamax. He can talk to his Dr. about it at his next appt with the VA. Boy are they a mess to deal with!

I wonder if you could order Firklover on line somewhere?

Yes about the VA being a mess!  My partner has back problems due to his service and refuses to deal with the VA for it, even though they should be the people handling the problem.  :/

I probably could order Firklover... but it's probably better for my body that I don't, eh? :D

I have had no will power the last week and I need to figure out why I can't stick to my plan. I have a good plan every day and I haven't been successful staying with it.

My plan was:

B: scrambled egg with cheese, ham and jalapeño

L: leftover steak and potatoes

D: pork chop

But then I had two pieces of cinnamon toast, a chocolate chip cookie, 2 pieces of licorice (not all at once)

Because I ate so much, I'm way behind on my water drinking.

I'm not sure what I need to do to change my mindset.

Its the carbs that get me, and make it hard to stay on plan.  But I love the carbs - breads, potatoes, cookies, deserts, crackers and chips.... sigh.  Whenever I let a little into my diet, its a down-hill battle until I finally face the fact that I cannot eat carbs.

Carbs really do me in, and I hate to admit it because I really enjoy them.  I'd suggest white-knuckling it and break the carb addiction, and I suspect you'll do better staying on plan.

best wishes,

Carol
