DIY Sugar free Torani syrups

Ran out of my Salted Caramel sugar free Torani sryup. This time though, I couldn't spend the $100 on Netrition.com to get my bulk order (saving pennies to pay the daughter's rent while she is in college). I realized that it should be easy enough to make. Took some searching to find a sugar free simple syrup recipe, and never did find a recipe for the caramel sugar free stuff. But it wasn't hard at all!

1 cup water, boiling

1 cup Splenda

Caramel extract

Dissolve the splenda in the boiling water. Add the caramel extract to taste (I went by color for my first batch). Store in an air tight container in the fridge- but only because I don't know it is Ok to keep on the counter. Sooooo much cheaper to make and it took just a couple of minutes. The time spent was mostly waiting for the water to boil :)

I like the hazelnut, and have been able to find it at our dollar tree (everything's a dollar store) they also have single servings of meat and fish :) I get the tilapia, and salad shrimp.

But awesome being able to make it yourself!!! Congrats!!

Dollar tree sometimes has the caramel, but there is not enough caramel flavor or something in general is just a little off. You can make it hazelnut simply by swapping out the extract. The same recipe above, in other words, can mutate into vanilla, mint, coconut, mocha, etc just by changing up the extract. I am going to a do a batch of caramel vanilla to see if I like it.

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I might try this with brown sugar Splenda and see if that's enough to replicate the flavor without the caramel extract.

Be careful with the Splenda Brown Sugar Blend.  It still has added sugar in it.

Thanks for the recipe. I might try it with some almond or coconut extract. Just an fyi, you can also find sugar free syrups like Skinny Girl (love the Mocha) at Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Homegoods, Tuesday Morning & Torani syrups at World Market (use the 10% off coupon) & Kroger.

Fyi- commercial splenda has dextrose added . dextrose = sugar.

I packet of splenda has less than 1 gr of dextrose. 1 cup of splenda has much more sugar.

So the homemade "Torani" syrup is not free of sugar.  That is important to diabetics and people who are sensitive to sugars
