What do you eat when you have a stomach bug?

I haven't been able to eat the past three days. My stomach turns when i see or smell food. I'm only managing about half a shake a day because those are making me sick to my stomach too. Any suggestions on what to eat? Normally I would eat crackers but that's not an option if I'm going to stay on track. What are your suggestions?

I drink chicken stock/bone broth and don't try to eat anything.

Herbal teas, take some natural supplements (i.e activated charcoal - not only absorbs toxins and acid - but is can also make the bacteria or virus less active) drink herbal tea, etc.

If the upset stomach continues for more than 5 days or you can't keep liquids in - and getting dehydrated - see a doctor.

I often use homemade egg drop soup - start with a very thin (1 egg in 1cup of hot broth) and as I can handle more I use 2 eggs, add some avocado... And some chopped herbs (dill).

Then I would process to add some well cooked - soft veggies. Like carrots. Adding little bit of butter.

Some people like plain yogurt - it can be cooling on inflamed stomach..

When I get any "upset" guts - I try to treat it as it was a "small child - baby" stomach. That you want to feed well cooked, soft mushy foods.

Hope you feel better soon.

Btw - once you get closer to goal and below your goal - not eating for a few days may be more harmful than it is now - but since you had some regain - a couple of days of fasting may actually help to heal the gut and even though it is not a good way to lose weight that way - that is a silver lining to geting a stomach bug..  At least it was for me.

Thanks for the advice, I have some herbal teas and broth so I'm going to try that today. I was at my wits end and not sure what to do.

Broth and tea would be my go-to's as well.  You may be able to add some unflavored protein.  Feel better soon!

Soup or yogurt - or nothing, if that's what tastes good - a few days won't hurt you, in my opinion.  Just stay hydrated.

Avoid foods, even protein, but keep up with clear liquids of all kinds. Stomach bugs are usually of very short-term (1-2 days) duration.

I just try to focus on staying hydrated, since I normally have no desire to eat when I've got a stomach bug.

Mint or ginger tea and sometimes diet gingerale, if you can handle the carbonation.
