my surgery went well! It's now day 3 post op. I got sent home yesterday evening (after spending 1 night in hospital) and I am in so much pain. I don't even know how to explain it but ugh it sucks. It's hard to drink anything cause t doesn't wanna go down right. I'm taking gas x strips which I heard really help but I'm not letting out a lot of gas. I threw up last night from the liquid medicine they have me on because I absolutely cannot stand liquid medicine :/ thinking to call me surgeon and asking if I can get a different medicine. Idk.i know I just had major surgery and it's gonna suck but any tips on how to make it suck less? Lol. And when does it get better? ? Thank you

First off, you must manage the pain.  If you can't tolerate the liquid medicine, call your surgeon for something else.  Or ask if you can dilute it into a drink.

Second, gas x will not help with the gas you've got, because it's internal from the laparoscopy.  You need to be walking as much as you can.

I did call and they said the alternative is liquid Tylenol, so either way I'm screwed cause I can't stand any liquid meds lol BUT I talked to my NP and she said to take sips and then chase with broth so I did that and that worked out a little better. I've been walking a LOT and still am continuing at home and I'm still not letting out gas really, not sure why

Good news about the pain meds!  Hopefully that'll help.

The gas gas isn't in your digestive system, so it's not like you'll be farting a lot as it dissipates :)

Hang in there.  It will get better.  I'm glad you can get the pain meds down now.  It should help.  I felt bad for 3 days - headachy and achy and slept all day - like I do when I have the flu.  Then by day 5 I was pretty much back to normal - with the exception that I was tired and needed naps.

You should be thru the worst of it soon.  It'll be worth it in the end.

best of luck,

Carol

Great to hear! I'm thinking and praying that last night was the worst (man it was horrible) so I'm hoping it gets better from here on out. Id love to hear from as many people as possible that the pain and discomfort is only bad for a few days.. gives me something to look forward to lol Today has been much better with some cramping here and there, but tolerable. Thank you!

That's when I had mine! Wanna be surgery buddies?! :D YES the liquid meds are gross.. but I can't stand any liquid medicine really. I just take sips and then take a larger sip of broth.. it helps rid the taste! I'm doin pretty well with getting my fluids in cause Ive been drinking a lot of broth! For some reason though my body isn't a huge fan of water right now, idk if it's the temperature difference or what. Odd! How are you doin?!
