Straws VS. Sports Bottle Tops

Hello!

I've read quite a lot of info online and on OH regarding straws.  I understand it introduces too much air in the stomach causing pains.

What about sports bottle tops?      I've been trying to stay away from straws to get used to not using one.

Thank you!

Straws don't cause trouble for everybody. I've personally never had any difficulty using them! Why not give both straws and sports bottles a try to see how things work out?

I will test them both out after surgery.  I'm pre-op, in the program, and working my way through the checklist.

It's the little things that keep popping up that I have questions about.  I thought I would have questions about things like "can I have a bite of cake?", but nope...it's things like "Can I use a straw?"

LOL!

We were told that straws are OK after a few weeks post surgery.  I use a sports cup and it makes it a heck of a lot easier getting my fluids in.

Since I've been using the sports bottle, I have gotten a lot more water in.  It really helps.

If you don't have any issues burping post-op, then it isn't an issue. Straws don't bother me. A friend of mine had her surgery the same time as me but for some reason doesn't burp very well so she is gassy all the time.

There will be a lot of little things that will come up like this. Chewing gum, straws, taking pills or capsules, sleeping on your side or back, etc etc. Generally speaking, if they irritate you, stop. Things that seem like issues right now really aren't.

Keep asking. You'll be fine.

I am really really good at not swallowing air when using a straw.  I assume most people are.

My doc said no straws but suggested we use a camelbak water bottle.  I pointed out that a camelbak was simply a water bottle with an attached straw and he was a bit perturbed at me.
