Where you physically can't fit much food for no reason at all?

The day before yesterday I was hungry all day. It was un-nerving and the first day since surgery that I fought with head hunger. I didn't eat any more than normal, but I did have a sugar free jello and a sugar free popsicle to stop the cravings.

Then yesterday I felt like I could barely eat and that continues today. It's not being nauseated/sick/in pain. It's just I am filling up REALLY fast. I was eating 2oz of dense protein and now I'm struggling with 1oz.

Did my nerves wake up all of a sudden?! LOL.

Hi, Erin!  I was sleeved on 2/8/17.  I've had exactly the same experience.  Some days I can eat so well that I wonder if they really did the surgery.  Other days - Oi! - it's hard to get anything solid down and I have to rely on fluids and supplements to reach my protein goal.

I have not had the experience of being hungry, but I have wanted to eat.  "Head hunger!"  I really like that term.

I found a long time ago that artificial sweeteners stimulate hunger. Instead of the sugar-free products, try a little bit of melon or applesauce.

I also find that the type of protein I eat makes a huge difference.  Beef and pork fill me up super fast!  But chicken?  I cut up a chicken breast in the morning and carry it in a baggy in my purse.  Then I snack all day on it.  I've been able to get down 4oz of chicken in a few hours that way.

I've also found that my weight loss depends on how much food and fluid I get down.  I had a pretty significant bounce about a week after surgery because I went through a few days where I couldn't even get 500 calories down.  I gained about 4 pounds!  Since then I've been really focusing on keeping my nutrition up.  I use Fitness Pal to track so that I don't jus****ch calories, but I see the nutrients I'm getting, too!

I don't know if all of that is much help, but at least you know you aren't alone.  As long as we're talking about it, I'll mention that today is NOT a good eating day.  Yesterday was great!  I actually topped 1000 calories!  Over the last week, I've managed to lose that bounce and I'm just a little lower than when it happened.  Yay!

Hi Erin-

I was sleeved on 1/23 and I'm not eating dense solid meats yet. Chuck roast in the crock pot is about as far as I've gone. I finally tracked my eating on www.fitday.com after I realized that fitnesspal was off according to most of the labels for what I was eating. I've been putting in my own product info on fitday so I know what I'm eating. I eat between 500 - 600 cals a day. I was at 450 but nutritionist told me to up it.

I had surgery 2 days after you. I find it hard to eat very much at all. My family sits with me while I eat, waiting for me to finish. They want my left overs. Do you mind me asking what you eat? Maybe if I try eating something else. it will make a difference. In terms of food intake, I don't think I have hit 400 cals yet.

I'm eating:

  • Fish (white fish, salmon)
  • Shrimp (as long as it's tender)
  • Pork, chicken, beef (not ground), turkey
  • Sausages/meat balls from everything above except beef
  • Cheeses of all sorts, but mostly part skim mozzarella and babybel cheese
  • Yogurt
  • Deli meat
  • Hummus
  • Sour cream, plain greek yogurt, mayo (to make things moist-er)
  • Ricotta cheese (made into pancakes & baked into Italian dishes without pasta) & cottage cheese
  • Protein bars and shakes
  • Epic bars (meat/jerky bars but softer)
  • Sugar free jello/popsicle
  • Eggs of all sorts (scrambled, hard boiled (minus the yolk), made into egg salad
  • Salsa/Avocado

That's all I can think of right now!

This is very common especially in the first months and year. Sleeve seems to change size for no reason. Just   remember to eat slowly and not drink for awhile before you eat. You might go to 5 small meals a day. Get protein in even if you have to use shakes.  Some days I could only eat half an egg. Try fish and eggs and other slightly less dense protein.  GL. Later on you will be glad you have good restriction.  Diane S.

I've had my first experience of what seemed like hunger in the last three weeks or so.  I'm always suspicious that it's acid or gas!  LOL  I've found that even if I go ahead to eat my pre planned food, I can't eat any more than normal--sometimes less?   I'm not sure what this new thing is, just wanted to commiserate!

6 months out and still have days where I feel like I get full on 3 bites.

It varies day to day.  I'm learning to go with the flow, and REALLY trying to listen to my body.  Some days I do better at it than others.  LOL.
