Good news! My pain has subsided, I'm Marching for Science today, and my appointment psychiatrist #2 was AWESOME! It was what an appointment should be - she actually asked (and seemed to care about) my history, knew about BED, and prescribes Vyvanse to a number of patients for BED and ADHD. She has no problem with me being on it FOREVER and managing my medication going forward. So she'll start that in July since I just got my next three months of RXes from my PCP earlier in the week. What a relief and it's good to feel like I'm doing the RIGHT thing by having a psychiatrist manage my psych med.

Bad news! It's raining :P I hope it subsides during the March!

1: protein shake
2: protein bar
3: Zaytinya with Lance, my mom, and her bff! It's a small plate place and has lots of tasty meats. Can't wait.

liquid and vites: we'll see. I'll try, but it'll be challenging due to the screwed up schedule
exercise: Marching for Science!!

How about you?

Well, I've figured out it's certainly a learning curve to be away from home and eating. One I want to continue working on because we travel quite a lot and it's something that makes me happy. Thursday night I bought short ribs to put on the grill at camp and they turned out horribly. We've had them in the past from the same store, but these were so tough I couldn't eat them. No biggie right? I moved on an Epic Bar, which had frozen in our cooler. Don't freeze them, it makes them horrible! I ended up with a Protein shake and going to bed.

Yesterday, even though we were out and about shopping went pretty well. I had 1/2 a burger from Five Guys for lunch and a P3 Protein pack for dinner. Something in the Protein pack didn't sit well with me though and I had some pain in my sleeve. I'm thinking it was the cashews. I'll have to give them a try again to see how it goes.

I did end up buying a size 8 pair of jeans yesterday. More than one in fact! They were at Old Navy which always runs a size up, so everywhere else I could wear a 10. BUT! Size 8! Single digits for the first time in my entire life!

Does everyone just wear shape wear all the time? This was the first time since surgery that I've bought myself clothes, so I've been wearing some pretty big jeans (Most pairs were 14's and some were 16's ). The jeans button nicely and the waist isn't tight, but oh the extra skin that bunches up everywhere. I'm down 107lbs total, it's going to be bad by 130-140lbs which is my goal.

I can't even begin to explain the strangeness of shopping not only not in the plus size section, but in the 8 jeans and medium tops and dresses? The body dysmorphia was really running rampant. I told my husband "But those are, average size people sizes. I can't be average sized."

Anyway, food planning for today isn't much better, but I'm to post what I know which isn't much.

B: Siggi's Spiced Pear & Babybel (this was yummy)

L: TBD, breakfast wasn't until 10:30 so not sure this meal will even happen. My protein goal is met without it.

D: Smoked Salmon and Laughing Cow

S: Premier Protein & Cabot Cheese Square

Totally off topic, but I thought I remember you mentioning them in relation to your running. Clif bloks? My trainer wants me to use them on heavy lift days? Do they help? I'm exhausting pretty darn easy right now.

I use Clif Bloks, but only when I'm running long distances. You're still so newly post-op that I think your exhaustion is probably more related to your body telling you "hey, take a break" than you needing to ingest blocks of glucose. (I really only use the bloks if I'll be running for more than 2 hours.)

And.. unless your trainer has training as a dietician, it's most likely outside the scope of his/her practice to be giving you nutrition advice.

Yes, he's a registered dietician in addition to whatever letters he has behind his name in relation to exercise. That doesn't mean I trust his advice, as I'm a bit jaded after 21+ years of diabetes and bad advice from dietitians anyway . "Just eat 16 carb exchanges per day, and everything will be magical". Excuse me, what?

I do want to continue to push myself with resistance training, as I really love it. I just need to figure out where that balance is, I guess.

Are you able to rearrange your meals at all so you're eating one of your normal meals before you lift? (Or splitting one meal in half and doing half of it before you lift?) If you've already tried these things, then I'd definitely not recommend adding glucose bombs, just ease off a bit on the lifting and call it training on listening to your body :)

I've been eating an already planned snack 1 hour prior to working out. It's been strictly protein (Jerky, cheese, I did try adding my daily shake before too). I'm liver dumping pretty badly and ending up with high glucose because of it. Prior to WLS this was an issue too and adding glucose did help (theory being, when you have none on board your liver "helps out" and since I don't have insulin to combat that, it's a long night getting it back down, so I have to take a bolus which means I risk going low). I have better luck not having a liver dump if I eat a yogurt (which is 15g of carbs and 16g of protein) prior to the work out, but that means I can't have it for breakfast and I'm being a baby about that.

His suggestion was that I eat a tiny portion of a block as needed over the course of the work out. So not 100 calories worth (3 blocks). I'm intrigued because I used to do this prior to surgery with glucose tabs (which are roughly 1/4 of a block each as far as glucose contents go, but they provide no other nutrients). I do also eat glucose tabs as needed for lows...so I don't die or whatever.

Hm.

Personally I'd try moving the yogurt, but, yeah, you're like 3-4 months post-op so I really think it's just your body saying, "hey, wait up."

But..... all this being said - experiment and see what happens! You're not going to damage your internal organs or anything. :)
