Frequent Stalls

I had VSG on Jan 30th of this year. After the first month I stalled for 4 weeks. At that point I lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks. I have now stalled again for 2 weeks. Did anyone else have this pattern of loss? Big drops followed by long stalls? If so, how did your loss work out over the long term?

Many people have described the weight loss as "stair steps" and stalls in those time frames are typical. I haven't had a true stall yet, but I lose big for 1-2 weeks and then small (sometimes very small) for 1-2 weeks and so on and so forth.

Thanks for the reply. Our start weights are off by 1 pound. I think I am a slow loser. Down 36 lbs since the end of January. That's fine with me as long as I keep losing.

Everyone is different, however this is what to expect on average.

Month 1 - 20 pounds

Months 2-6 - 10 pounds a month

Months 7-12 - 5 pounds a month

Lose 100 pounds in one year.

I just hit my first stall really. I lost really consistently and once I hit the 100 lb loss my body decided it was going to be stubborn and lose ounce by ounce for a little bit. I am just keeping with my program of very few carbs (30 or under a day) and just protein for my meals. I try not to get on the scale every day though, I know it would drive me insane if I did. As long as you are following your doctor's plan, you will be fine even with frequent stalls I'm sure.

I'm glad you posted this, because I have felt the same way and was tempted to post about it. I haven't lost any weight this week, and the week before was minimal. I am going to start yoga and hopefully that will kickstart another week of losing! How's your energy? I keep waiting for the energy increase....still waiting. Of course, I have a three year old and six year old, who wake me up all night.

My energy is decent. I found it improved a lot at the 7 week mark. My daughter is 13, so no more broken sleep for me. ?

There is no "expected" or "typical" weight loss.

A person who weighs 400 pounds losses 40 lbs while a person who weighs 280 loses 28 lbs. Both lost exactly the same 10% of their starting weight. Stick to your plan and the weight comes off.

If you search for "stall", you will see that it is pretty universal. I only weighed once per month (on my surgiversary) during the weight loss period so stalls/upswings wouldn't make me crazy. I weigh daily in maintenance btw.

Stalls are totally normal :) If you stick to the plan, you'll reach your goals. Chances are you didn't put the weight on at a steady rate either!
