And I'm assuming you had the sleeve? At my first meeting with the surgeon we discussed where the predicted weightloss would put me BMI wise. He didn't say as much, but I'm now wondering if he was insinuating that the RNY would work better. My current BMI is 49.4.

Yes, I did have the sleeve. (If you look in the upper right corner of each person's header, most of us have the type and date of surgery there ).

I did research for 8 years to decide on which surgery I wanted. I didn't ask the surgeon's opinion, lol, I knew the VSG was the one for me. The thing that always caused me to fail at losing and/or keeping off weight was portion control. I knew how to eat healthy, just always ate too much, so the small stomach would be just what I needed.

However, I have two BFFs, one has had RNY, the other is getting RNY at the end of May. They both decided they could not make the permanent changes to their diet to eliminate simple and processed carbs completely, so they opted for RNY because of it's malabsorption component.

You have to do the research, and know yourself well enough to know for sure which surgery is right for you.

Statistically, Rny and Vsg are comparable in results. Rny has an advantage for putting diabetes in remission, although Vsg does just not at the same rate. I started at a 44 and made it to a 23 at my lowest, with maintaining 24 being the norm.

Mine was 79 or so. Currently it's 51 and I am still losing despite having several autoimmune disorders and no thyroid. Unfortunately, I am very short. If I was the normal average height I'd be in the 40's.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
