Costco protein

I am going to Costco to get some protein for post op, for gen I am cleared to drink that stuff. I see lots of praise for premiere protein drinks, and it sounds like most people recommend the chocolate one. So I will get some of that. But what protein powder is best? I recall walking the aisles that there is a lot of variety but I never looked at them closely, and some are more for body builders than bariatric people. I do not love the bariatric advantage latte protein powder, though if I make it very cold, it is tolerable, and I did order unjury unflavored to put into broth.

I like Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate. But, everyone's tastes are different. For example, I never even touched the canister of unflavored protein powder I'd gotten.

You want a protein powder that has whey protein and not much else.

I hated them all. I bought Unjury unflavored protein powder on-line and make my own shakes. I could also put it into sf/ff instant pudding, light & fit yogurt etc. I've even put it into my Crystal light lemonade. No chalky, yucky taste. It was much easier getting my grams in.

Best wishes -

I would recommend you do not buy large quantities of any one type- your tastebuds change and what you like today may not work well post op. With that said, I like the RTD Premier Protein chocolate, strawberry or caramel. The Orgain chocolate powder is good in coffee to make a mocha coffee. Muscle milk was awful. I had bought a huge tub of it and finally realized I could tolerate it in coffee, thank goodness. That first month out I did isopure plus- regular shakes sat too hard. Premier protein now makes a clear protein drink (Sams club) that is similar, but much cheaper to buy... have not tried it yet.

Thanks for all of your advice, much appreciated. I got the muscle milk powder in chocolate and the premiere protein drinks in banana something or other. I kind of hate all this sweeetened protein but I am sure I can manage it in the short term.

This liquid diet is so unpleasant. I want salt! Vegetables! I made grilled summer squash, and a roasted sweet potato dashed it with lemon for my husband. It smelled amazing. I didn't let so much as a crumb of anything pass my lips.... day 10. Only two more days of the liquid diet, then two days of the clear liquid diet, and then, if I don't chicken out, surgery. Can't chicken out.. can't. Can't.

Oh dear,

Don't chicken out 10 days in- this is the hardest part and you almost have it done!!!

Pre-op diets definitely stink, and in fact I think are harder to deal with than moving through a post-op diet. It will all be worth it and will seem like a very brief period in retrospect after surgery.

I have to agree with HappyTeacher, do not purchase a large container of protein powder. Prior to surgery I was able to enjoy Premier shakes, but after surgery I didn't want to even look at the containers. Your tastes bud definitely change after surgery. You need to make sure your protein powder is Protein Isolate. Some health food stores have small samples to try. I've gone through several brands of protein powders. My 2 favorite protein powders now are Celebrate Mint Chocolate (can purchase on Celebrate web site) and Magnum Quattro Vanilla Ice Cream (amazon). I also add Torani Syrup, frozen strawberries, frozen bananas, pineapple, blueberries or blackberries to my shakes.

Try a few. I thought the Premier protein tasted like artificially sweetened chalk. The food you eat post op isn't supposed to be a punishment for being fat in the first place.

I used the unflavored Unjury. I added it to everything including cottage cheese, yogurt and soup. I didn't like Sweet drinks and blended 4scoops with a quote of fair life milk. I think it was 32 grams of Protein per 8oz glass.
