Hello, this is my first post. I am scheduled for VSG surgery on 5/22 and started my pre-op diet today. Down 14 pounds since I started this process two months ago. Very, very excited. I was just invited on work trip to serve on a panel at a national conference and I'd love to go. It's scheduled for two days after surgery and would require a short flight. Is there any way that could happen or is that ridiculous to consider? Thank you!!

Personally I wouldn't have been able to do it. I am not taking the pain meds at all and still require a morning and afternoon nap. Remember you are only eating about 500 calories max so you are exhausted. Day two I was still very sore and still trying to get just little sips of fluids in. I had my surgery 5/4 and feel only about 50% normal. This is major surgery, I pose this question, if you had surgery on your heart would you want to rush off two days later? Another trip will come along. Just wait for that one.

Sadly, I think this is ridiculous to consider. You'll still be super tired and working hard to stay hydrated two days post-op, and probably still on pain killers. :(

I had surgery almost 3 wks ago. I went bck to work 1 week and 3 days after and I travel for a living....I'm also a great healer in general. I wished I waited a full 2 wks.

is ask my dr if I were you.

I would have to agree with everyone. Not only will your energy be low but if you don't have complications with surgery (pray that you don't) but you actually might still be at the hospital for the trip. I would not go and rest, it's best for you and your body.

Nope. Skip the conference. I had a super easy recovery and no way could I have managed a flight and a conference 2 days after. 2 weeks later- yes if you take it easy. Not 2 days. Call your doc perhaps and ask for an earlier date or to be put on a list in case some one cancels you can scoot in earlier.

I was released 48 hours after surgery. There's no way in the world I would have willingly got on a plane and traveled. Or gone anywhere but home.

I was functioning just fine after a week, but still wouldn't have gotten on a plane. Blood clots are dangerous. And being on a plane at high altitude make you much more susceptible.

Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.

It's physically possible but you would hate every second of it.

Thank you for bringing me down to earth a little and helping me understand what to expect. I am so used to putting work first that it will be a big (but positive) change to put myself first for a little while. Glad to hear everyone's wisdom on this!

As you said, you need to start putting yourself first. Get yourself healed & go back to work with a clear head.

Just a thought.......if you can't physically attend, is it possible to "attend" via video or audio?
