Bananas causing dumping syndrome?

I put half of a frozen banana in my protein shake this morning and it is making me feel awful like rapid heartbeat early dumping syndrome symptoms . same thing happened yesterday but I couldn't figure out what it was. Has anyone else experienced this with bananas? I guess I really haven't eaten bananas through the past only in the mushy food stage after surgery last year.

thanks,

paige

Probably, they are a very high sugar and carb item. I haven't had once since surgery. If I want something banana flavored I get a protein shake from GNC.

I still occasionally have 1/2 a banana in my protein shake with no issue. Are you drinking too fast? If it continues, I'd check with your doctor.

It's very rare for a VSG'er to dump. Could it be reactive hypoglycemia?

Well that sounds kind of like early dumping but who knows? After describing my symptoms to my surgeon that my last regular appointment and he agreed that I probably really was experiencing early dumping. I should've written down what triggered it that time but it was something that had a little refined sugar in it. One thing though, my stomach is actually emptying much faster since the corrective revision I had Monday before last. Yesterday I had consumed the entire shake and had to go lay down. Today I took three or four sips and then started feeling that way again so I stopped drinking it. My surgeon is one of those who wants me to eat a varied diet - including veggies and fruits but he does want me to get 80g of protein in first and he does allow banana on the plane so I thought I would try it. Never again :(

A banana is all sugar. You might as well be eating a candy bar. Really, it's not something that anyone ought to be eating after WLS. There are a million better choices.

Adding stuff to protein shakes may improve the taste. But it's just wasted calories. Stick to just protein.
