Has anyone had a BMI below 40 before surgery?

I'm wondering if I'll get approved since my BMI is 38 ?

Sort of freaking out if I'll get approved? "The submission was about a week ago.

I just finished a 4 moth doctor supervised diet program, but I haven't lost a lot, only 7 lbs.

Thank you

Generally, the guideline is a 40 BMI with no comorbidities or a 35 BMI with 1 or 2 comorbidities (depending on your insurance). Mine required one and my BMI was 36.2. I have diabetes.

It was a sigh of relief!

At least for the day!

Now I"m back waiting for the scheduler to call me and set up my surgery date and my appointment with the surgeon. That's supposed to take up to 10 days. Also depending on Dr.'s schedule. and whatever tests I need to do...who knows when this surgery will happen :-( My life is currently on hold until after this surgery!

Thanks for the support. I appreciate it.

Your best bet is to call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask what their requirements are for approval. They're really the only ones that can answer this question.

Me - I had co-morbitities (high BP, pre-diabetic, sleep apnea, high cholesterol). The guidelines are usually over 40 BMI or over 35 with co-morbitities.
