Protein shakes don't help with weight loss. They help you get your nutrition in while your stomach is so small and traumatized that you need to get in significant supplementation through liquids. How long each person needs liquid supplementation after surgery varies a lot, just depending on the person and how quickly they heal.
For all of the eternity. Still use them to help maintain or in general to help hit protein goals. I am almost 6 years out. Made goal at 8 months and maintaining well ever since.
