First Goal Reached!

At 135lb, I am now the weight that I was when I met my husband 11 years ago! At the time, I thought of myself as overweight and was constantly juice fasting and "cleansing" with clay, herbs, and laxatives. I thought that I ate really healthily - my diet consisted of lentils, black beans, whole grains, juice, fruit, veggies, chocolate and soy ice cream. I wish I could give my early 20s self a hug and a talk about self love and food choices!

Next goal is 130lbs, my lowest adult weight (I weighed 130 only for 1 day after a fast) and the weight I hope to maintain life long. After that I'm going to lose 10-15 more to give myself a regain cushion. It's hard to imagine what I'll look like with 20 more lbs lost but I think that regain cushion is important.

Did you give yourself a regain cushion?

Congratulations! Isn't it fabulous?

I'm only 2.5 years into maintenance. I didn't give myself a regain cushion. However, my thought was that it would be easier to gain a few than lose a few later on. I went lower into BMI than I ever thought possible (low 20's) but left the door open for a higher weight later, if I wanted.

I think it takes a while for things (physically and mentally) to settle. I do have a rather broad range (8 lbs or so) of acceptable weight fluctuation and I have been all over it. I had a couple of body compositions done that told me that I didn't need to go any lower. If anything, they confirmed that if I wanted to gain strength (and I do) that I would have to gain some weight because there was no more safe fat to lose.

You will figure out your path. Enjoy!

Woop! Awesome job!

My lowest 'adult' weight was around 170-175lbs (5'7") in high school/college. So, I set my first goal at 160lbs because I couldn't imagine wanting to go lower. Then I hit that easily and figured I'd give myself a cushion and reset my goal to 145lbs. Now I am about 10lbs give/take below that and really would like to stop losing soon. BUT, I love how I feel and look at 135lbs so I don't really want to regain my cushion, lol.

I totally understand this thinking. If I ever got down below my goal weight and was able to maintain that or keep losing...after being overweight my entire life, I would be able to force myself to gain weight. I Just don't think there would be anyway to make that happen.

yay congrats. My doctor says to allow for 5 pounds either way. I have regained about 10 and need to get on it. But after 7 years I just don't get too excited. Just keep on doing what your are doing. I inadvertently got below goal so I had a regain cushion but blew past it. I need to get busy on it but at age 66 I just don't get too wigged out about it any more. GL Diane S
