Well VSGers, Tuesday is the big day! I'm freaking out a bit! I had a 2 week liquid diet and I honestly didn't stick to it 100%...more like 90% so I'm praying that everything goes well.

Also, this is my first surgery EVER so I'm nervous about that! Any tips for having the best first week? I know about the walking and I have my clear premiere as well as jello and homemade broth (thanks mom!) but anything else? I'm blessed to have a boyfriend that's going to go walking with me whenever I want and took off my first 3 weeks home, but I hope to be able to be able to do for myself after the first couple of days. Any tips would be appreciated!

Congrats on your surgery tomorrow!

I was in the same place as you with it being my first surgery ever! Also I did slip 2 times during my 2 week pre op liquid diet but it's not like I went out for a buffet dinner.

You will be sore and tired. I was in a lot of pain after my surgery because I have a low pain tolerance level but my boyfriend was there with me and I got up and walked ever 2-4 hours when I was awake.

I had water, broth, sf popsicles, and sf powerade.

My mom and boyfriend were there with me at home for the first 5 days home. Also they might give you a "stomach binder" I would use it if you're able to tolerate it rubbing on your incisions. I wish I would have grabbed mine to use once I went home but I forgot it.

Good Luck! :)

My surgery was 5 days ago. It was easier than I thought. Spent 2 nights in hospital. Pain was very minimal and I took no pain medication at home. Rest and sip! Both are easily done once you're home. Good luck.

Good Luck with your surgery - you wont regret it and it sounds like you have great support

Biggest tips would be to concentrate on your fluids when you get home - sip sip sip and rest lots

Be kind to yourself and I look forward to welcoming you to the losers bench :)

I haven't had surgery yet, but from being a nurse and a patient, what I know is, it's very important to walk afterwards to prevent blood clots, and to help expel gas. My surgeon also recommends drinking a medicine cup (30mls) of fluid every 10 mins to prevent dehydration (set a timer if necessary), take your multivitamins, and get 60grams of protein daily.
