Hard recovery

Well I wish I could sugarcoat everything and say this has been an easy recovery but it hasn?t. I am getting better everyday. I have been able to get down 64 oz and 60g protein daily with no nausea or vomiting which is great, but I have had horrendous gas pain, like absolutely excruciating. I?ve also had severe pain in one of my incisions that presents like a burning, searing pain, and it almost takes my breath away. I?m told it?s normal, and was caused by the port they use for the liver retractors. I was also informed that there is some extra stitching there to prevent hernia. When the gas pain gets trapped under that incision area, holy Mary of Nazareth does it hurt. It's funny how we are all so different as far as our recovery. I?m very happy to say the surgery is over, and I?m doing as well as can be expected. I?m on three more weeks of clears with protein shakes. My doctor is ultra conservative. I probably won?t advance until end of Nov. which stinks, but per my MD is what it takes to have the best possible outcome.

I took gasx & codeine religiously until that pain passed, about 5 days. Walking a lot, helped a lot! Hope you're feeling back to yourself soon!

I bought gas x even though it is said to do nothing for post-op gas. I figured it would at least eliminate my natural gas (as to not further aggravate the issue.) I'm backing off the pain meds. Trying not to get my bowels to wake back up!! Thanks so much. I'm improving everyday.

Oh Shannon , I'm so sorry . I'm 3.5 weeks out from surgery. I did not experience gas pain but bought GasX just in case. Walking is a remedy for sure. Call dr tomorrow if no improvement. Maybe Tylenol for pain if dr approves. I guess I got lucky. I certainly expected more pain and gas, but it never happened even though I had two larger incisions to remove my Lapband.

Hang in there. It has to get better .

Thanks so much Carol. I definitely thought this would be easier, but I'm getting better each day!

I had more pain than I thought I would after surgery, but I swear, it will get better. There was such pain where he removed the stomach, that I screamed a few times when I was getting up and attempting to sit down. Extremely nervewracking for my poor husband, but it was soon gone and it mostly forgotten, unless a post like yours reminds me of it.

I took the pain meds until they ran out, and didn't try to be heroic at all. Pain meds were my friends for almost 2 weeks, and I was grateful for them.

I'm thinking of my poor husband too! He has literally been waiting on me hand and foot. I can relate with the pain you mention. It literally took my breath, and a couple of times I thought I'd pass out. Terrible. My pain meds didn't even touch it! Well what doesn't kill you makes you stronger right? Thanks for your encouragement! I'm definitely on the mend!

If your pain meds aren't touching your pain, you need to take to your surgeon ASAP.

Thank you. If it weren't for the fact I am improving greatly I definitely would. I'm going to see how it goes tomorrow. I'm hoping for even more improvement.
