Don't think it's thrush, no symptoms other than bad breath. Thankfully no health issues that you mentioned.

That sounds like possibly thrush, which is common after this kind of surgery. Most people need a prescription such as nystatin to cure it. Contact your doctor to get it checked out!

Drink lots and lots (and lots) of water to flush the ketones out of your body. They are the byproduct of ketosis and causing the strange smells and tastes.

During ketosis you break down fat into ketone bodies and the byproduct is a form of acetone. It's actually primarily this that's excreted, as well as ketones you can't use.

As time goes on the body becomes accustomed to utilizing ketones as energy so fewer are expelled. The odor will go away in time.

This is because when we use fat for energy, we actually expel it via breath and urine primarily. Val is right - drink as much as possible and it will help fewer ketones be expelled via your lungs.

I've been in ketosis for years and no ketone breath even though blood tests still show me making them. So eventually you will adapt.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

Given that the symptoms are from a diet that is overly low in carbohydrates, the most straightforward solution is to simply add some carbohydrates back into your diet - a bit of veg or fruit, perhaps? I couldn't afford the potential side effects of low carb dieting so I never went there. While I averaged in the neighborhood of 100g, which is still classically "low carb", I never experienced any of the frequent side effects, and it didn't bother my weight loss.
