I have a question about this... so my daily calorie intake is about 600 to 750 calories a day. I eat 3 meals a day with no snacks in between per my providers instructions. I eat about 4onz a meal and I base my meals on protein meals to reach my goals. sometimes I am short on my protein so I drink a bit of protein shake or something to help me reach my goal. if my intake calorie is about 750 calories and I go to the gym and burn around 300-400 calories that leaves me with around 400 calories. IS THIS CORRECT?! IS THIS SAFE?! IM SOOO CONFUSED ON HOW THIS WORK. I'm new to doing exercise so how it works is a mystery to me. lol does the calories u burn come off the food u ate that day?! I apologize in advanced if this is a stupid question but Im seriously trying to figure it out and I want to make sure im also safe to do exercise with my surgery.

Thank you!

You shouldn't take into account calorie burn when you're figuring out your calories to consume. Why? Caloric estimates are notoriously inaccurate and "eating back" the calories you exercise sort of defeats the purpose of exercise in the first place.

Exercise is awesome for overall health, but diet is what matters for weight loss.

Keep it simple, don't even think about calories that you're burning with exercise. Stick to your 600-750 calories/day and enjoy your exercise :)

Double check with your team, but my team's position was that exercise calories did not get "eaten" ever during the losing phase. Bump up your liquids - make sure you are hydrating and consider using Powerade Zero or G2 if you are sweating a lot, but I didn't bump up calories during the intense losing phase.

That being said, I'm now about 17 months post op. I'm not quite at maintenance - I'm still losing but my goal right now is to decrease my body fat percentage and increase my muscle mass. So, I will drink something with slow digestible carbs after a big workout to help with recovery or add extra protein. Two days a week, I fence for 2.5-3 hours at a time. I burn 800-1,400 calories when doing this. My daily calorie intake is usually 1,000. I will bump up by 200 calories on fencing days so I don't over stress my muscles as they are trying to repair. But I didn't start doing anything like this until I was close to where I wanted to be and exercising like a crazy person. Generally, I'm in the gym 5-6 days a week to the tune of 500 calories burned minimum.

But that's just my experience. Best of luck on your journey.

Keep on losing!

Just had this conversation with my personal trainer today!! I start my liquid pre-op on Tuesday and was like, umm....can i still come and work out with you everyday, if I'm only consuming 400-600 calories? Am I going to pass out?! Haha. Just listen to your body!! And don't eat back in the calories ;)
