is it just me or is dry skin common after WLS?! before surgery I always had extra oily skin and now its sooo dry lotion is not helping. I need to know if this is related to my surgery. has anyone else experienced dry skin after surgery. if so any recommendations on what can help with the extra dry skin? I use a lot of aveeno lotion but my skin is extra dry and its not helping.

I'm experiencing this as well, & yes drinking my water & taking my vitamins. I'm chalking it up to hormones like a few other issues I'm dealing with. But, I could be wrong. Forgot to bring it up at my 3 month checkup.

Well, it is winter which doesn't help.

But, yes, dry skin has definitely been something I've had to deal with. Keeping hydrated will help and ensuring that you are getting healthy fats in your diet will help also.

So I guess, for you, the weather is probably dry ALL THE TIME! For me the skin thing is way worse in the winter because our summers are stupidly humid.

Fellow Arizona resident here! I went through similar, and the dry desert weather didn't help either.

Dehydration was really what did a number on my skin. It got better once I upped my fluids.

I'd also suggest coconut oil for the dry skin. It worked really well for me!

During the summer, my skin isn't quite as dry so I don't need something as heavy-duty. I use a bottle of aloe body lotion (I think it's Jergens brand?) and put it on when I get out of the shower.

Weather has an effect (I'm in Philly). Getting in your water helps but in those first few months, hormones are all over the place and that can make a difference. I'm finding that now, about 16 months post surgery my skin is kind of settling in to its new normal which is a little drier than it was before. My hands and feet have always been really dry in the winter and that hasn't changed - I've just upped the lotions and switched to stuff that is somewhat thicker than I would normally use.

Keep on losing!

Yes, whoo hoo, it's not just me! I used to have supremely oily skin and hair and now, I must use lotion AT LEAST 3 times a day. Try O'Keefe's working hands wherever you are really dry. Another good one is actually one you can make at home. I have done it many, many times. Mix 1/2 c. coconut oil, 1/2 c. cocoa butter for lotion and if you want to make something that you is more solid to carry with you add 1/2 c. beeswax. You can find he cocoa butter and the beeswax through Amazon or at your local craft store. Add whatever essential oils you like and that will help. Also, I have been pushed back to my childhood with this one, I use that on my hands and then put an old pair of tube socks on my hands at night.
