Good morning, all! I'm in a good place with my classwork today, so I'm going to be able to enjoy the weekend more than I had initially thought I'd be able to! I'm going out to Indian for lunch and then to indoor mini golf with Art and some friends from his dojo. Should be fun times :D

QOTD: What are you most looking forward to in February? (I'll answer in a comment.)

1: protein shake
2: Indian! (Maybe the buffet if it looks delicious.)
3: Spiced Beef Mini Burgers, Cacio e Pepe for the guys

liquid and vites: on track
exercise: we'll see how I feel about counting mini golf as exercise after the fact. :)

How about you?

My calendar is pretty empty for February, actually. Surprisingly, I'm looking forward to the WLS support group on Monday. It was cancelled in January due to weather, and I found that I missed it!

I'm also REALLY looking forward to getting my new glasses today. They're my first progressive lenses and I've been noticing a degradation in my reading vision for quite some time. I'm worried that I won't be able to adapt to them, but I'm also super excited.

If the measurement for the placement of the different prescriptions,(reading and distance) is not done precisely, they will make you crazy. I also had mine remade and am really happy with them now. If done correctly, they should only take a couple days to get used to.

I have used progressives for about 10 years now. (After I hit 40, my vision began to deteriorate). Most every pair I've had has been spot on. I actually wear two different pairs now. One for far vision and reading and another for computer and reading.

You do have to get used to tilting your head a bit up and down depending on whether you are looking close or far away. People warned me I would be dizzy looking down when I walked, but I never experienced that problem.

However, this last pair have been horrific. The optometrist did center the lenses properly to match my eyes. When they were ordered, the center of my eyes were marked opposite. Meaning that the center of my left eye was ordered as my right eye and my right eye was ordered as my left. Very few of us have exactly symmetrical faces and for me, one of my eyes is slightly higher than the other. So the prescription is off. They fixed the one side, but the other is still off. I got tired of fighting with them as six months later, my prescription changed enough for it to be not worth it anymore. I reported them to the BBB and told all my friends and family. I will also never go back.

When I get insurance again, I will be going to a new optometrist.

Here is a link that explains some of the measurements that should be made with glasses:

I got progressives last year and didn't like them either. I felt like I was losing the bottom 1/4 of my field of vision when I wasn't looking straight ahead. And I didn't like trying to find the small reading areas at the bottom. Cheapy reading glasses felt better. So this time I got just plain distance. Guess what? Now can't read things with my glasses that I can read without my glasses. You can't win the spectacles game!

I hated progressives, which is what my first pair of bifocals were. I switched to lined bifocals and never looked back, I like them so much better.

One of my friends told me the same thing about his experience - he started with progressives, hated them, and switched to bifocals that he loves. I found this extremely reassuring since I was worried that, if I didn't like the progressives, I'd be screwed. So it's nice to know that lined bifocals are an option!

I've had my progressives on for about 7-8 hours now and, so far, they're indistinguishable from my old glasses aside from the fact that EVERYTHING is clear. It's sort of amazing :D

Good glasses are important. I need to make an appointment for when we get home because DH needs new long distance and near glasses (it might be time for him to stop having progressive lenses). I need new reading glasses.

QOTD: I'm looking forward to warmer days in Florida and going to the beach. We've only been a couple of times and didn't stay long because the winds in January were very cool. We are also looking forward to dances and shows coming up this month (there are 1-2 a week). We went to a dance for the first time here at our clubhouse last night and had a great time. DH danced all night with everyone and just loved it (I danced too)!
