A few days ago I passed the 18 month anniversary of my sleeve surgery. This morning my lovely wife consented to taking a few pictures of my progress. I started out in June of 2016 weighing in at 481 lbs. I have included one of the most unflattering pictures I could find of myself from then.

I had surgery on October 11, 2016. It was Yom Kippur. I am not Jewish (although I read and write in Hebrew) but the significance of the day did not escape me. I weighed 414 lbs the day of surgery.

Fast forward to today. I am down to 264 lbs as of this morning. My lowest weight ever post surgery is 263 lbs. I hit it several times a month and then bounce up 1-3 lbs before going back down again. I thought I was stabilized at 275 lbs, but in January my father died a horrific death. That event promoted me to caretaker for my mother, who is semi invalid and suffering from Alzheimer?s. It stressed me out more than I?ve ever been stressed before. I lost 12 lbs in 10 days. Even so, I feel pretty good at this weight, and have been maintaining it for almost three months without any undue effort. There was a little naughty indulgence at Easter, but the few pounds I gained came right back off with the resumption of my regular eating habits.

At 264 lbs the antiquated BMI chart says I have an index of 35 and that I am still obese. My surgeon laughed right out loud at that. I did too. I sluffed off on my exercise over the winter. Most of what I did was shovel snow and scrape ice. There was a lot of that. But as you can see in the skinny picture, warm weather is finally upon us. That means lots of yard work on our 5 1/2 acres, and lots of miles on the bike. Who knows? Maybe I will continue to shrink. If not, I am content at the weight I am now. All that remains is to maintain it.

Stupid software! Then again, even though I've lost all that weight, I can still fat finger things.

I am so sorry for the stresses you've had to go through recently. None of those are easy to deal with. You have done so great and I am glad to see an update from you. Stay well and try to make sure you still take time for you even though your caregiver now.

Well Bill it looks like there's less of you to love. You're still an inspiration.
