5 year aniversary of WL surgery

I think the weight gain started before I broke my arm, but it was the broken arm that overwhelmed the diet plan. I was also depressed by the current politics in this country. As a person who worked my whole life to empower the underprivileged, and create a kinder, less harsh world, the shift to exclusion and dehumanization of people was just unbelievable. I was really suffering emotionally.

I gained 10 pounds in the 6 months after I broke my arm, and another 10 in the next year. I was very worried, as I just couldn't sustain the healthy eating, and whenever I'd slip, I'd gain weight quickly.

When I went in for my 5 year check up, I expressed my concerns, and my NP suggested several helpful strategies, all of which I knew, but was not doing. But she suggested I come in for monthly check ups until we get the weight under control. This has been a great motivator for me, and once I started succeeding, my enthusiasm grew, and I could start exercising again, and the dieting got easier.

So my suggestion is that if you are gaining and worried, make use of your medical team. They understand that obesity is a life-long struggle, and they can help you get back on plan

best wishes,

Carol
