At this point, hunger is most often due to stomach acid or dehydration. How much liquid are you getting in each day? Are you taking a PPI such as prilosec or nexium?

You should be aiming for 64 ounces of fluids a day, at a minimum. Right now, hydration is your number 1 job. If you're having trouble remembering to drink, set a timer to go off every 10-15 minutes and take a sip. If you're having trouble with the act of drinking, try different liquids and different temperatures. Some people have an easier time with hot tea, or warm broth, or luke warm water, or cold crystal light. Experiment to figure out what's tolerable for you and then drink like your life depends on it. Since it does. :)

I had my surgery on the 25th of June and fought dehydration the first couple of days. It was tough getting those fluids down, my stomach was still swollen, I'd feel "full" after two Oz and it was all around a pretty miserable experience. I'd *maybe* get 20oz of fluids in the first couple of days and was genuinely afraid I'd wind up back in the hospital for IV fluids.

One of the ladies on these forums mentioned tiny cups. I had bought 3oz disposable cups but hadn't thought to use them, was just filling a 24oz tumbler then getting upset when I could barely drink a third of it, much less all.

Tiny cups are so much less intimidating. Pretty sure the person who suggested it (can't remember and not on my PC atm to look back) definitely saved me the hospital trip. I kept a water bottle by my desk and would pour some into the 3oz cup and drink between doing work cases (I work from home, and typically takes me a couple mins per case) and it really did wonders for helping me get rehydrated and stay hydrated. My nutritionist before surgery had told me never to force myself if I felt "full", but she never said that doesn't apply as much directly following surgery. It's really important to push fluids in small sips.

I went through this same thing I had my surger 6/5/2018, 5 weeks post op and im still struggling with getting liquids. I am pretty miserable about it, i can do 44 oz of water right now. I have to go in and get Iv's from time to time because i get so dehydrated.

I did do the 3 oz water tiny cup thing and that was okay just i couldn't make it to 64 oz, i think for some people the stomach lining swells for a lot longer and bigger than some others. I felt like when i am pushing fluids my stomach feels angry at me and is trying to say hey no more room down here. Anyway right now since im having trouble i keep my doctor up to date regularly so that we can keep finding solutions.
