Question about vsg

I'm new to vsg and looking into for myself after years of struggling with my diet. I am 5'8 and 240lbs. I don't have any comorbidities that I can think of, except for knee pain, back pain and depression. Oh and last I checked I had high blood pressure. Does anyone know if Kaiser will count any of these as comorbidities? Or even my family history of kidney failure and diabetes as one?

Welcome!

The only way to know for sure what your insurance requirements are is to call the number on the back of your card and ask.

Check your insurance requirements, but generally a BMI between 35-40 requires at least 1 comorbidity and high blood pressure usually counts.

Every insurance is different but if you call and ask they will tell you. My insurance just required that my BMI was over 35 and I didn't have to have any comorbidities which was good because I didn't have any at all.

Height = 5'2 Age = 37 Surgery Date = August 13, 2012 HW = 231lbs LW = 131lbs

Regain SW = 209.6 CW = 191.2 Goal Weight = 157.6 lbs

The only way you will see results is if you stay consistent!

Check their website. You can also hunt around obesitycoverage.com . It's an aggregate site of WLS insurance requirements , but also has some interesting articles and tools.

Good luck! My fried had a VSG done through Kaiser and actually had a really positive experience.

I didn't have Kaiser, but my company counted high blood pressure as a comorbidity (not the other issues you mentioned - diabetes would count if you had it, not just a family history). I also had a sleep apnea test during the prep and discovered that I had that which was also considered a comorbidity. Many people with higher BMI do have undiagnosed apnea.
