Hey there!

its been almost 4 weeks from surgery. I am supposed to be on purée foods. My portion size is supposed to be about 1/4 of a cup. I haven't been able to do this. I have tried tuna, mashed chicken , potatoes, apple sauce. I'm lucky if I can get half in. If I push myself I start getting pain , not in my stomach but my chest. I take very small bites and chew pretty well. Also fluids have been a challenge . I I'm always short of what I am supposed to take.

im starting to get worried . Those this get easier?

Thanks

You are definitely not alone. Check out my posts. I?m struggling with the same thing at 7 weeks. I?ve even been feeling weak frequently. I heard it does get better but don?t know when. With the proteins that you mentioned, I got a heavy and full feeling at the bottom of my stomach before I even completed 1 ounce while I was on mushies. But I advanced my diet on schedule thinking it would improve as I healed. It hasn?t yet. One piece of advice I received here is that if the protein isn?t getting down you can spend a little more time on protein shakes instead of advancing your diet for a while which is what I?m trying. And you can count the shake volume into your fluid totals. I?m still struggling even with water. I hope it does get better for us and for anyone else with these issues.

It will definitely get easier.

Do not push yourself to eat more - diet progressions are one size fits all and some of us need to go slower. If you can't eat 1/4 of a cup, don't!

You do, however, need to work on getting your fluids in and that matters significantly more right now. Try different liquids and different temps. Hot tea, warm broth, cold crystal light. You need to get at least 64 ounces of fluid a day - protein shakes count.

Thanks so much for your advise . Will keep experimenting with different fluids and temps. I will keep drinking and try to advance later. Thanks again!
